1bed/1bath cottage near Carpentras, Provence

When

October 2008, 7 nights

Location

The Mas Solige is located just east of Carpentras on the D974 (Route de Bedoin). It is a few kilometres from town.

The property was very centrally located for all of our daily excursions.

Nearby Amenities

The Intermarche was a 5-7 minute drive from the Mas Solige.

There is a Friday market in Carpentras which is an absolute must-do if you are in the area.

The House/Apartment

The Mas Solige is a renovated farmhouse from the 1800's. It is in very good shape. The Mas is very charming.

We rented the 'gite' (Tournesol). There are other B&B-style rooms available to rent. The hosts (Corinne and Olivier) live on site with their kids.

Garden

There is a wonderful garden/sitting area outside. It is shared with the owners and other guests. There are several different sitting areas along with a swinging lounge chair for two people.

We normally spent a couple of hours in the garden after we returned from our day of sightseeing before dinner.

There is a very friendly cat on the property.

There is a concrete wall that 'hides' the road from the Mas and this also helps block out some of the noise from passing traffic.

The walkway from the parking area to the Mas is lined with lavender. You can smell the lavender as soon as you get out of the car.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The gite was very comfortable, spacious, and clean.

There is a large bed (I think it's larger than a traditional North American queen) which is very comfortable.

There are two chairs at the table along with another single bed that can be used as a bed or a sitting area.

The bathroom is very big with a spacious shower.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

The bed was very comfortable. We slept very well during our stay here!

The linens and towels are provided and of good quality.

There is no separate 'room' for the bedroom.

Kitchen

The kitchen is very well stocked with pots and pans, utensils, dishes, etc.

There is a microwave, a bar-sized fridge with freezer, toaster oven, kettle, etc.

Dish soap, a sponge, and paper towel were all provided.

Problems or Bonuses

We absolutely loved the traditional table d'hotes. We had three meals with Corinne and Olivier. The food was absolutely spectacular and the conversations were so enjoyable!! If you stay at the Mas Solige, you really should join them for a meal ... it was VERY memorable!

There is a laptop in the main house with high-speed Internet access. This is available for guests to use.

Corinne and Olivier are very knowledgeable about the area and have many resources available for guests (pamphlets, maps, etc.)

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Corinne and Olivier were both very easy to deal with. They always replied promptly to e-mails and they speak very good English.

It was really nice to stay at the Mas Solige because we knew that they were always there if we ever had any questions about the area and/or any problems. I think it may have been a bit lonely to stay in a stand-alone gite. Plus, we learned so much from Corinne and Olivier about Provence and France in general. They are absolutely wonderful and gracious hosts.

The website accurately depicts the property.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

We would definitely stay here again. And I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this property to others.

We loved the Mas Solige and spending time with Corinne and Olivier.
