Le Pressoir Gite and B&B in Vaucelle/Bayeux was our favorite accommodation during our four weeks in France during the Fall of 2008. It is about a seven minute drive from Bayeux center. We stayed in the two bedroom gite, but there is also a B&B on the premises. Both are separate from the main residence so there is much privacy.

Our family of four thoroughly enjoyed the gite. It is part of an historical building but it is obviously newly renovated with full kitchen, living room/dining room, 1/2 bathroom downstairs and washroom(no dryer, but drying racks). Upstairs there are the two bedrooms -- one double and two twin beds in there and full bathroom.

The owners, Sylvie and Serge are two of the loveliest people we have met on our travels and welcomed us as old friends simply from our correspondence. Their English is limited, but they were so gracious and welcomed our attempts at speaking French. Their joy is obvious in owning this establishment, as Serge spent time showing us around the premises. He explained its history in his family, and specific restoration that had been done, and also gave us a tour of the B&B, which is next door to the gite.

The grounds are beautifully kept and there were board and yard games provided for guests. I imagine it must be heavenly to stay during the spring or summer and sit outside under the trees.

We chose this gite due to its proximity to Bayeux, WWII Beaches and even Caen. There is a grocery store about three minutes up the road and the historic town of Vaucelles down the street. Its amazing price was an added bonus,(60 per night) and honestly if I thought that we would return to Normandy regularly, I would be tempted to keep this gem to myself. The pictures on the website do not do it justice.
