Studio apartment in Dijon, Burgundy WhenMay 2009, 1 week LocationSituated in the heart of old Dijon, opposite the Ducal Palace. On the first floor of an apartment block. Fantastic location. We heard or saw no other neighbours, and even though it was in what could be a noisy area, no noise at all when the windows were closed. Nearby AmenitiesSpoiled for choice with bars and restaurants. Fabulous market several days a week within easy walking, and a supermarket just near the market hall. The House/ApartmentAn historical building in beautiful condition. Magnetic entry to the building and a keyed entry to apartment. A large main room with very comfortable bed, couch, TV, computer with WiFi, phone with free international calls, and an eating area. Plenty of chairs and places to sit. Small but functional kitchen with everything needed to cook a nice meal for two. Separate bathroom, clean, modern and well set out with a shower over the bath. Separate toilet. Coat cupboard, storage cupboard, and another with shelves and books on tourism in the area. GardenDijon was our outside sitting area! Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe apartment was spotlessly clean and the furniture was all comfortable and attractive. The apartment is decorated with style and an eye for the comfort those lucky enough to be there. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe linens on the bed, towels and the kitchen crockery etc. were all of good quality and pleasant to use. KitchenI cooked several full meals in the kitchen after shopping at the market. Problems or BonusesThe owner, Coco, was the best surprise. I had read good reviews, but it didn't prepare us for the generosity and hospitality of her welcome. Coco has lived in Dijon all her life and loves to communicate her enthusiasm for this vibrant city. She met us at the apartment, helped us find a place to park, and took us on a quick walking tour of the city. She showed us how things, (e.g., washer/dryer machine) worked and then kept in touch by email during our stay. You didn't feel overwhelmed, just supported. The apartment is stocked with things you need to start your stay, and more! In the fridge is milk, mustard, jams, ham, butter, orange juice, yoghurt and water. There is shampoo, toothpaste and soap, a bowl of fruit, fresh bread, rice, pasta, muesli, paper towel etc. etc. etc. Coco even turned up with freshly baked cake! The only possible disadvantage I can think of, and that is hard, is that parking is at a premium, and it can be difficult at times to find somewhere near the apartment. A VERY small concern. Agency and Representatives (and price)Coco's English is excellent. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?I would not dream of staying anywhere else should I return to Dijon. I would love for my best friend to stay here. As my husband says, "superb." Things to do in this areaWander, get lost frequently, eat and drink, take day trips to Beaune, Dole, the Abbey of Fontenay, Semur-en-Auxois. There are a multitude of things to do both in and around Dijon. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
