1bed/1bath apartment in 5th arrondissement, Paris
WhenMay 6-14, 8 Days LocationThis apartment is located in the heart of the Latin Quarter in the 5th arrondissement. Rue de la Huchette is a bustling street, with many tourists walking about each day and night. Notre Dame Cathedral is literally around the corner, and the St. Michel metro stop is only two blocks away. Nearby AmenitiesThere is an abundance of restaurants, bars, and shops nearby with a Monoprix just a few blocks away as well. The House/ApartmentRumor has it that Napoleon (or at least one of the Napoleons) lived next door at one point. The stair case is 400 years old. Despite the bustle on Rue de la Huchette, there was no noise heard from inside the apartment. The windows overlook two different courtyard areas surrounding the apartment, and noise will travel. (I think we were a bit too excited our first couple of nights, and were probably a bit too loud during supper time so keep it in mind! We felt really bad!) It is a 350sq ft, one bedroom apartment, so when you first walk in you enter the living room/kitchen area. There is a nice table sitting area in the one corner with room for at least four to sit around. The sofa is a pull-out, and the bedroom is loft style, with a double bed above and a single bed below, and the bathroom is just off of the loft/bedroom area. GardenNo sitting area! As explained above, the windows overlooked two different courtyard areas, but nowhere you'd want to hang out. Merely useful for getting from one place to another. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe furniture was in great shape, and the apartment was very clean. In fact we arrived while the cleaning person was still there, and when we checked out on the last day she was returning on our way out the door. There are some cleaning supplies in the apartment if you want to do some upkeep yourself while you're there. There were enough chairs for our party of four. The kitchen table has two single chairs, and an L-shaped cushion/couch thing attached to the wall which is part of the seating arrangement. Quite comfortable. Bedrooms/BathroomsMy husband and I slept in the loft area, double bed and were quite comfortable there. It might not be the best location for the older crowd as you have to climb up a couple of steps to get to the bed. In other words you need to be alert during late-night bathroom breaks. :) However, my parents slept on the sofa bed, in the living area and were quite comfortable. The two areas are divided by French doors, which have pull-up blinds on them for privacy. There is one bathroom in the apartment with toilet, tub/shower, and sink. It suited us just fine! The tub and bathroom itself were quite old, but this didn't matter to us as long as everything was working! KitchenThe kitchen was great! We prepared all of our breakfasts, and most of our suppers here. There were two burners, small fridge, microwave, and a toaster oven. Also the kitchen was stocked with cutlery, dishes, pots, pans, wine glasses, cork screw, and dish towels etc. Problems or BonusesBonuses included: Washer/Dryer combo installed in the kitchen, instructions were left there as well so we were able to do a load of laundry mid-week. There's a fireplace in the apartment although I'm not sure if it works, but it looks nice! Also TV and phone were in the apartment as well as free wireless. There were plenty of books left behind in the dresser regarding Paris travel, and some other reading material as well. The only real problem was the smell around the courtyards, there may be a few wandering cats in the area - but nothing that interfered with our apartment stay. Honestly, it's a minor complaint compared to the great stay we had. Agency and Representatives (and price)We had no problems with the agency. It was my second time booking with them and everything was fine. We spoke with a couple of Rental in France associates, and English was fairly good with one, and not great with the other. However, my husband was able to communicate in French just fine. The apartment was pretty much exactly as it was advertised. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others? If you're looking for an economic rental choice, that's in the heart of the Latin Quarter then I definitely recommend this place. The apartment was quiet and comfortable, it wasn't the Ritz but it provided everything we needed for the week and more. Things to do in this areaThere's tons to do in the area! Your steps away from many restaurants, shops, churches, bridges, the Seine, and the Metro. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
