3bed/1bath cottage in La Teulière, Quercy, Aquitaine WhenOctober 2003, 1 week LocationLa Grange is in a tiny town, La Teuliere, near Bretenoux and Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne, in the Quercy region of southwest France. The house has a beautiful view and could not be more peaceful and quiet. Nearby AmenitiesThe town is too small to have any facilities -- maybe 25 houses. It's a five-minute drive down the hill to restaurants and maybe five more minutes to the nearest grocery shopping. The House/ApartmentThe house has 2 floors. The upstairs is an open plan with kitchen, dining area, and living area. Three bedrooms (2 with doubles and one with bunks), one bath, and separate laundry room are downstairs. Everything is in good shape, very tastefully decorated, and clean. It is exactly as represented on the web site, but nicer. GardenThere is a barbeque/sitting area outside, which is totally private. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe furniture is extremely comfortable and in good shape, with plenty of sitting space in the living and dining areas. Everything is clean and well-cared for. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe bed was too soft and could have used a new mattress. The one bathroom was nice and more than adequate for the 2 of us. KitchenThe kitchen was extremely usable, with more than enough pots and pans and dishes, all of good quality. There was adequate counter space for cooking full meals. Problems or BonusesThe real surprise was how tastefully decorated and pleasant the upstairs is, with its open-plan arrangement and comfortable furniture. The 5-minute drive up a hill with 4 or 5 sharp turns was a surprise the first time up, but posed no problem at all. Agency and Representatives (and price)We booked using the internet with no problems at all, paying with a check in US dollars even though the owners (and the web site) are Australian. We gathered from talking to Aussies we met in the area that the owners' properties are very well-known and popular in Australia, and advance booking is necessary. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?I would stay here again in a flash. Canadians who were staying down the road visited us, and agreed that we had a much nicer place for half the price. Things to do in this areaThis is a beautiful and untouristy part of France, with many lovely small towns (and some larger ones) within an hour's drive. There are beautiful Romanesque churches, wonderful country markets with amazing products, rivers for water sports, caves with prehistoric paintings, and some of the best food in France.
