Review 4219: Owner, La Maison de Village

Review by FirstTime 2 France from Canada

2bed/2bath house in Bonnieux, Provence

June 2009, 8 nights

This village house was located in the heart of Bonnieux, the perfect location for our daily drives to other nearby towns.

Nearby Amenities

The perched village of Bonnieux has much to offer. There is a small grocery store, bakery, post office, numerous restaurants and cafes, and perhaps best of all, a winery less than 5 km from town. A stunning view of Lacoste can be had from the terrace of an affordable local restaurant (Restaurant Le Tinel) and we spent many evenings watching the spectacular sunset from this location. There are also some local shops selling art and/or handmade crafts which are quite lovely. Bonnieux is also home to a bakery museum. Finally, a small tourist centre offers excellent brochures and tips for things to do in the area.

The House/Apartment

This charming village home was in excellent shape and decorated simply and tastefully. There is a peaceful ambiance you feel the moment you walk in the door. The first floor had a well-stocked kitchen and a light-filled dining room with a beautiful view over the petite Luberon mountains. Upstairs was a sitting area with a pull-out bed (which could be used as another bedroom)and the main bedroom. The main bedroom is quite romantic, with good quality bedding and another stunning view from the windows. One more floor up is a small bathroom and a private terrace where we enjoyed our morning coffees. There is another large bathroom and bedroom downstairs from the first place, complete with laundry facilities.

The very private terrace outside on the upper floor was large with a table, deck chairs, and umbrella. The view looked out over the petite Luberon mountains. Perfect!

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The house was very clean and the housekeeper, who lived in the village, was available for any on-site problems. We never encountered any.

Problems or Bonuses

No surprises good or bad.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

The owner was lovely to deal with and sent us a lot of useful information prior to our trip, including a great road map of the area. The house also houses many books, including excellent travel guides.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I would unreservedly recommend this vacation rental to others. We fully intend to stay here again the very next time we can make it over to France.

Things to do in this area

Bonnieux is the perfect town from which to explore the surrounding Luberon area. There are an unexpected number of good restaurants in town, more than we could visit in just one trip. For our last evening, we treated ourselves to dinner at Le Fournil, where we had a delicious meal outside on the beautiful terrace.
