studio apartment in 4th arrondissement, Paris

Studio Rivoli, photo by Helga

When

September 2009, 7 Days

Location

Studio Rivoli is located in an ideal location on Rue de Rivoli across from the St Paul Metro stop in the 4th. It is enjoyable being in the Marais just a very short distance from Place des Vosges and the wonderful Rue des Rosiers. I stayed in the Rue Cler neighborhood on my last visit. This is a much livelier location.

Nearby Amenities

A Supermarche, cafes, boulangeries, chocolate, restaurants and much more are across the street from the building's entrance.

The House/Apartment

The apartment is a 30 sq meter studio located on the sixth floor of an 18th century building. There is a tiny elevator big enough for two. You enter off of the busy Rue de Rivoli entrance but go down a long corridor, through a nice plant filled courtyard, into another secure door to reach the elevator. The apartment faces an interior courtyard and is very quiet. We had a view of rooftops and the top of St. Paul's church from the two French doors. We rarely saw any other residents. Everything is in good repair.

Garden

There are two tiny balconies each with a chair, one with a small table. It is perfect for sipping wine and relaxing.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The apartment is bright and airy thanks to the two large French doors. One long wall was recently painted a deep maroon-brown color as an accent. It is an attractive room with timbers and a chandelier. The seating area consists of an antique leather sofa that looks a little battered and two 1940s style chairs. The chairs are much too low to sit comfortably, but they are cute. There is also a small dining table with chairs in the kitchen area. The kitchen area looks recently updated as does the bathroom. I was surprised that it was so nicely stocked. We had plenty of toilet paper, paper towels, soap, detergent for the washer etc. If we needed anything, Thierry, the manager told us to ask the concierge downstairs, and she would get it. How nice! But, we didn't need a thing. Everything was super clean. We also had the luxury of a long narrow walk in closet. You can hide all your travel junk in there and not clutter your living space.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

Since this is a studio, the bedroom is in a sort of alcove area. The bed is comfy and fine with nice linens. The bathroom is large, has a nice window to another courtyard below which houses the fire station. Ladies, you may enjoy watching the men here!! We were never bothered by any noise from the fire station.

Kitchen

The kitchen has everything I needed but I did not cook so I can't comment on pots. Everything I used was nice quality. It was great to have the washer/dryer combo.

Problems or Bonuses

There were no bad surprises. A nice surprise was the free long distance. That was unexpected and very nice to have.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Thierry owns many of the apartments he manages. I think the one we had was owned by a friend of his, but he was always very responsive when I was booking and for any questions I had prior to arrival. The keys were where he said they would be. I called him upon arrival and arranged to meet at the apartment an hour later. He was prompt, friendly and a pleasure to deal with. I had no problems or complaints. In fact, we were thrilled that it was so darned nice. I was charged 800 but the rate on the site was 850.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I would recommend this apartment to anyone. It's a quality rental at a very good price. I don't know what more two people could want or need.

Things to do in this area

It's the Marais! What's not to love? It was all wonderful, fun and friendly. I guess if you don't already know about it, you should not miss L'As du Falafel on Rue des Rosiers. They had odd hours during our stay but we finally got it right and were happy we were persistent. The falafel 'special' was awesome.
