Studio apartment in 11th arrondissement, Paris

When

October 5-12, 2009, 1 week

Location

The rental is on the ground floor of an apartment building on a quiet street in the 11th Arrondissement. Because it's located at the rear of the building, it is very quiet.

We liked the area for its easy access to all amenities: supermarket, tabac, boulangeries, rotisseries, cafés, taxis, metro Voltaire, Monoprix, shops and boutiques.

Nearby Amenities

As mentioned before, all the shops are literally around the corner on Place Léon Blum.

The House/Apartment

The apartment is on the ground floor of a modern building that you enter with a digicode. It has a small kitchen with a window looking into the garden, a good size living/dining area, an alcove for the bed, a large bathroom with separate toilet, and a walk-in closet.

Garden

As shown on the VRBO website, the garden is very attractive and private. We had several meals -- and glasses of wine --on the covered patio. It was a nice place to relax after a day of sightseeing.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The apartment was clean and the furniture was in good shape. There was a large dining-room table, with an extension panel, and four chairs. The sofa and chair were comfortable. The lighting is especially attractive and well done in this apartment. The garden furniture was also in good condition. There was also a laptop computer, a flat screen TV and a phone with free international calls.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

The queen-size bed was comfortable. However, there was a reading lamp on one side of the bed only, which made reading in bed a little difficult. The mattress cover is plasticized and crinkly, which was rather uncomfortable.

The bedroom area is in a recessed alcove separated from the living area by an attractive screen. The decor is the bedroom and the rest of the apartment is very nice.

The large bathroom includes a washing machine in good working condition. We had plenty of hot water for our morning shower. The caulking around the tub though was dirty.

Kitchen

We like to cook some of our meals when we rent a gîte or an apartment. There were enough pots and pans, glasses and dishes. The stove is a two-burner and works quite well. The kitchen is tiny but has a large window that opens and has a view on the patio and the garden. There was dirt around the kitchen window that had to be cleaned -- which I did.

Problems or Bonuses

The apartment was larger than expected. When the patio doors were open and we could see the garden, it was really lovely.

Because of our past experience with apartment and gîte rental in France, Spain, Greece and the Czech Republic, we were surprised that some basic items were missing, e.g. salt and pepper and a fresh bar of soap in the bathroom. There were empty bottles of oil and vinegar and several other old food jars in the kitchen cupboard that probably should have been thrown out. There was also a soiled kitchen sponge on the counter that we quickly replaced with a new one. The tap in the kitchen was very loose and in need of repair. The whole apartment could have used a fresh coat of paint.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Our emails were always answered quickly and our contact was very easy to deal with. The on site person was very friendly ad helpful. The reality of the place accurately reflects the information published on the website.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I would stay there again and would recommend it to my family and friends. We enjoyed our week in this apartment and loved having a meal or a glass of wine in the garden.

Things to do in this area

The apartment is not far from the Bastille area, the Marais and the Canal Saint-Martin. A great location. On previous trips, we stayed in the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th arrondissements, so the 11th was an interesting discovery. We liked the fact that it was not as touristic as the single-digit arrondissements.
