Review 4455: Paris for Rent, Marais Terrace

Review by Terry Celtic from Australia

3bed/2bath apartment in the Marais, Paris

December 2009 and January 2010, 4 weeks

Magnificent location for being in and exploring Paris - snugly fitted on at the conjuncture of the Marais, les Halles and Hotel de Ville on Rue de Rivoli. Having Notre Dame only a few hundred metres away for midnight mass at Christmas - but there are three magnificent churches even closer by !

Nearby Amenities

Only had to walk downstairs to the closest supermarket - and many fantastic supermarkets, boulangeries, cafes and restaurants within one or two hundred metres radius.

The House/Apartment

Modern apartment in great shape and perfectly located. Also perfect for our group of five - one adult couple in one bedroom, one adult single in another bedroom and two adult/near adult sons in third bedroom. It is a unique place, as it is separate from other apartments in the building - has its own separate entrance, and has exclusive access to a fantastic open courtyard/terrace.

Very quiet despite its very central location - only sounds from the outside world are the bells of the Cathedral, and the nearby New Years Eve street party!

You can view the property directly: Marais Terrace.

As mentioned above, this apartment has its own fantastic open courtyard/terrace (which is exclusive to the apartment itself - not shared).

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

Furniture was in good shape and extremely comfortable.

The same party of five of us had struggled to live with each other successfully in a different vacation apartment in a different fantastic city (Buenos Aires) 12 months earlier - no such problems this time - perfect amount of space and comfort to either gather or escape from each other as we felt fit at any time.

TV is old style, but in Paris, who wants to watch too much TV? As big football fans (soccer), access to TV channels showing football would have been good - but TV not a huge priority.

Beds as comfortable as any we have ever slept in - bathrooms we fine for five adults and they were very good.

Most usable kitchen that we have had in many vacation apartment stays - absolutely fine for cooking full meals.

I enjoyed cooking in it - although cooks knives were a bit blunt. I was tempted to go out and buy myself a decent cook's knife.

Problems or Bonuses

No complaints - we loved the place.

Bonus? The integrity of Pat and the Paris for Rent team!

I'll explain - when I asked my bank to send the rental payment they initially refused - they told me that a couple of days earlier there had been another customer who had fallen victim to an Internet scam on a holiday rental - this person had lost thousands of dollars (transferred to a scammer) and now Interpol were involved. I asked the bank to proceed with my payment and we had no problems whatsoever - Pat and Paris for Rent even chased me to ensure that my deposit could be properly refunded - and they have proved themselves to efficient as well as honest.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Agency we booked with was unbelievably good! Dealing with Pat at Paris for Rent was a huge pleasure. We have been sending off emails and requests to other agencies for properties on Paris and the responses were awful - for example, replies of "not available" in response to our requests, even if it was for info not dates. Pat (perfect French and English) called me within minutes of receiving my email asking for information, and together we worked out what I wanted, and what she would recommend ! Everything was crystal clear - price, condition of the apartment, facilities and location. Pat knows her stuff and is responsive to her clients.

On site person, Christine, was also charming and hugely helpful. Also made her self available to us throughout our stay for any questions we had.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

Yes - I would stay there again, and have already given the details to friends. I will certainly book with Paris for Rent again too!

Things to do in this area

I could not do justice to the place - there are so many wonderful things to do nearby and in Paris beyond - but the following were magical things for us :

1) Morning walks up Rue de Rivoli, Rue St Anointe to Bastille and then up on to the Promenade Plantee to Bois de Vincennes 2) Bike ride through Paris with Andre from Paris a Velo C'est Sympa 3) L'As de Falafel Restaurant (at the end of Rue des Ecouffes) 4) Anahuacalli Restaurant (Mexican) at 30 rue des Bernadins over in St Michel (75005 - Metro Maubert) 5) Daytrip by TGV to St Malo!
