Vacation rentals in France (farms, cottages, gites, apartments)
Review 4569: Owner, Grenelle 1
1bed/1bath apartment in 15th arrondissement, Paris
Dec 09, A bit more than a week
The apartment is nicely located pretty much in the central (but then again, where's central Paris?). It's not in the touristy side, but very close to the city's landmark Eiffel Tower, only about 10 minutes walk.
The metro station is right across the street. It's a good thing that the place is very close to the metro/RER station... I felt relatively safe to go back 'home' alone at night.
Cafes, restaurants, supermarket, boulangerie; everything you need you can find nearby. Very convenient.
The place was in a good condition. It was peaceful and quiet, all I needed to get a good sleep after a long day wondering around the city.
Nearby is Champs de Mars Park where I went jogging and had the best picnic ever with the sight of the Tower.
The Apartment is spotless. What a relief because I'm fussy about such things. The living room is cozy, with cable TV (I know I was on vacation but still needed to be in touch with the rest of the world) and a computer plus WiFi free to use. This is the only time I went on vacation and needed not to worry about spending too much money in contacting people at home.
This is the part of apartment I was concerned the most before making the booking. For me it's a must to have nice bed to sleep on and clean bathroom, and the apartment provided it. These two rooms were the first I checked on when I arrived there and I was literally dancing around the apartment after, knowing I'd have a good stay in the apartment.
The kitchen was fully equipped. At least for me :). I didn't cook much though, only used it to make breakfast and prepared food for picnics, and some simple dinners when I didn't feel like going out. I could find anything I needed there.
Problems or Bonuses
I found out that I could make a free phone call to the USA and Europe, which was terrific. It made it easier for me to contact friends and confirm accommodation in my next destination. It was a big help since I didn't have local number for my cellphone and that way I didn't need to buy a calling card. I personally thanked my landlord for this treat.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
Booking the apartment was so simple, no hassle at all. I was a bit hesitant to send the down payment via PayPal, but the owner of this apartment, Nicolas, was very nice and helpful. I asked a lot of things in advance, and he answered every bit patiently. He spoke good English, so communication was not a problem. There were no surprises about the apartment, what I read on the website was exactly what I got. Plus, I got good advice from Nicolas 'not so touristy things' to do.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
I would definitely stay here again (though after staying in two different apartments with good experiences I felt encouraged to stay in different neighborhoods just to get different ambiance).
I would highly recommended this place to friends and family to stay here as I think this is a very good place to stay in Paris.
Things to do in this area
I'm not sure if I can remember everything...
Nearby there's a southern French bistro where I loved to have dinner. The food was good, big portion, and their salad was so fresh and the good news is this place is affordable. On most nights I paid no more than €20 for a full meal including the house wine.
On the left side of the building was a supermarket where I bought my supplies the first day I arrived. In the nearby boulangerie I bought my breakfast. I loved their orange cake and viennoise au chocolat. You can also find street market on some certain day. I couldn't remember the day, though.
