Review 4604: Rental France, Rue de L'Université Eiffel Terrace
2bed/1bath apartment in 7th arrondissement, Paris
May - June 2010, 3 weeks
Seventh arrondissement with a view of the Eiffel Tower and Les Invalides from one of the balconies. Located in a quiet, secure apartment building across from the Branley museum.
Wonderful neighborhood with shops, restaurants, and tree lined streets. It was a two-minute walk to the Champs de Mars and the Eiffel Tower. We walked the 10 minutes almost daily to Rue Cler to do our grocery shopping. It was about a five-minute walk to the Pont Alma Metro "C" line station. On Rue Monttessuy and Ave de la Bourdonnais were amazing restaurants, Firmin de Barbier, Au Bon Accueil, and Au Petit Sud Ouest.
The apartment was clean and well appointed with upscale furniture, appliances, towels and bedding. It looks like it was professionally decorated. The building is located away from the street, surrounded by other buildings in the apartment complex. There are two security entrances to access before getting into the apartment building. We felt very safe in this area as it was very upscale. We could go out walking in the evening and there were always families out walking too.
You can view the property directly Rue de l'Universite.
The apartment has two private balconies that were great to have our meals out doors and watch the Eiffel Tower. There were chairs, tables, and a chaise out on the balconies.
The furniture was not only beautiful but very comfortable. Beds, pillows, bedding were upscale. There also was a leather sofa in the living room that converted to a bed. We had sufficient space for three single adults. The living room had a flat screen TV with access to BBC, CNN, etc. It also had free WiFi and a telephone with free calls to the U.S. The apartment was immaculate.
The beds had upscale mattresses which were very comfortable. The bathroom was done in marble and the bath/shower has a glass hydraulic shower door. The hot water was endless ... there must be a hot water heater on-demand as we never ran out even when we were doing laundry in the washer/dryer.
The kitchen was very functional with a two hob stove top and a convection-microwave oven. There was a American-style coffee maker and toaster. We cooked some elaborate meals in the apartment and had everything necessary. We really enjoyed preparing and eating our meals in the apartment and found we ate way-too-well. There was no dishwasher but we took turns cooking and cleaning up and it worked well.
Problems or Bonuses
The apartment was exactly as the pictures displayed on the website. We were amazed at the excitement we felt about the Eiffel Tower with the lights going on in the evening and then the twinkling lights that came on each hour. We were like children awaiting the lights. We never tired of the views from the balconies. We could sit out and hear the concerts on the Champs de Mars. We even got to see the "Extreme Sports" feat of Taig Khris roller blade off the Eiffel Tower on May 29th.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
The agency that manages the rental was very efficient. The manager and staff speak English and responded to questions whenever we emailed. I actually emailed with the owner who lives in the U.S. The weekly rate was great. I probably looked at over 100 other rentals and found this apartment was reasonably priced but not if you are looking for an economical place. I believe this apartment was reasonable at €1500 per week for a luxury apartment. One of the agency staff was waiting for us when we arrived and oriented us to the apartment and the area.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
I love this apartment and feel this was the best rental I have ever had in France or Italy. I thought maybe about not posting this review as I do not want the apartment to be totally booked when we want to go back, but I always book a year before ... so hopefully I'll get a reservation!
Things to do in this area
The apartment is well located in an upscale area of Paris. We walked and used the Metro to everyplace that we wanted to see. There are lots of Michelin starred restaurants in the area. Shopping in the area was great. We felt like we "slow traveled" and lived like the Parisians.
