Review 4670: Owner, Cottage Le Capiol

Review by Dominoe's Mommy from TN

2bed/2bath house in Cenac et St Julien, Aquitaine

June 2010, One week

Cottage Le Capiol was in a small village. The cottage was one of several attached cottages. The village was very charming and beautiful.

The location was conveniently located to all we wanted to see in the area. It was easy to drive to and from all the places we visited.

Nearby Amenities

To get to the cottage it really is best to have your own car. But once in the village we were able to walk to restaurants and shops easily.

We had stayed in prior properties out in the country and this time we opted to stay in a village. We enjoyed being able to walk to the nearby bakeries and restaurants each morning. We would stop every morning before heading out to sight see at one of the restaurants where we had a cup of coffee. The girl attending the restaurant was very helpful and pleasant and made us feel very welcome to her village. A grocery store and gas station were nearby, too.

The House/Apartment

The house itself was very tastefully decorated, spotlessly clean, and had all that we needed to enjoy our week there. There was a washing machine but no dryer; however, we were able to hang our laundry to dry outside on the patio.

There was one small parking place directly outside the cottage. I recommend a small car for this parking place. My wife often directed me into the parking space because the car we rented was a bit large for the space. The smaller the car the better in our opinion, but we were upgraded at the airport in Toulouse when we picked up our car. Upgrades can be a hindrance rather than a positive!

There is a patio area outside the cottage with a small table and chairs. The patio is across the street from the cottage and down some stairs (which are a bit steep). My wife and I did not sit outside on the patio as we preferred to walk down to the restaurant for our grand cafe cremes, but we did use the area to hang our laundry out to dry.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

All the furniture in the cottage was comfortable and clean. There was enough seating for four people.

The house has two bedrooms, one on the lower level where you enter the cottage and one on the top level of the house. The lower level bedroom has a double bed and an en suite shower/sink. There is a half bath (toilet and sink) outside the bedroom.

On the upper level is another bedroom with twin beds. There is an en suite bath with tub, sink and toilet in this bedroom.

The upper bedroom had a floor fan to use and we did use the fan, but it never really got too hot anywhere in the cottage. My wife and I arrived when it was cool and rainy, but by the time we left a week later it was beginning to get hot. The house kept itself cool even on the hotter days.

The kitchen was open to the living room area and was well equipped for cooking. My wife and I enjoyed preparing our evening meals. Everything available to eat/cook with was in good condition and attractive to use.

Problems or Bonuses

The only negative of this property was that there was some mildew in the lower level's shower. My wife purchased some bath cleaner with bleach and that helped remove most of the smell. There was also a smell coming from the washing machine area. The smell wasn't a problem to me, but the smell did bother my wife. For this reason she opted to sleep upstairs rather than downstairs.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

The owner of the property was available the day we arrived at the cottage. Prior to our arriving, the owner was very helpful. All transactions went very smoothly before arriving at the cottage. The owner is English so we didn't have any language problems. The information describing Le Cottage Capiol accurately describes the property. We paid 735 and we stayed in the cottage late in June 2010.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

My wife and I enjoyed our week very much in this cottage. I would not recommend the cottage to families with small children because of the stairs. The bedrooms are separated from each other, one on the lower level and the other on the upper level with the living/kitchen area in the middle. However, the cottage would be fine for families with older children.
