Location

The gite was a converted barn on a farm in the country. The location was beautiful, close to a public forest with great walking trails. The area around La Tringale was very quiet, with other farms and cottages on a quiet rural road.

Nearby Amenities

The nearest small town was about 20 minutes walk but we didn't explore it. We had a rental car and used the gite as a home base to explore the area. We bought groceries in Bayeux before heading to La Tringale.

The House/Apartment

The gite was part of a remodeled barn on a farm. The farmhouse was charming and had a couple of B&B rooms. There was also a self contained cottage attached to the main house.

Garden

The buildings were arranged in an L with a large patio in the center. There were several table/chair sets and benches and we really enjoyed spending time relaxing outside. There was also a large grassy area with badminton and soccer nets and a small playground for little kids. The grounds were beautiful, with a pond full of frogs and ducks and gorgeous flowers everywhere.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The gite was clean and comfortable. The furnishings were more than adequate for two adults and three big teenagers. The living/dining area was large with two sofas and a large dining table. There was TV with an extensive DVD collection to borrow from.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

The upstairs was arranged with one bedroom with a double bed and another with three single beds. There was an area with reading chairs on the landing between the bedrooms. The beds were comfortable (firm mattresses) with nice linen and duvets. Black out shades on the bedroom windows made sleeping in a lovely thing.

Kitchen

The kitchen was well equipped with a sink, gas oven/range, microwave, fridge, toaster and coffee maker and electric kettle. Ron and Bunty provided tea, coffee and milk. We used the kitchen to prepare breakfast and quick dinners after a long day sightseeing but it would have been more than adequate to prepare larger meals. There were barbecues available as well. There is a washing machine and clothesline available for a small fee. This worked great for us!

Problems or Bonuses

This place is a real gem. The pictures on the web don't begin to do it justice. At the end of the day we were all so glad to get "home" and relax in the garden or play soccer.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

We booked directly with the owners, a delightful British couple who responded to our emails promptly and were there to great us on arrival. They were willing to rent for just four nights instead of a weekly rental although we all wished we could have stayed a week. Their Labrador, Beth was a perfect hostess and we all enjoyed her company very much.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

All of us felt our stay at La Tringale was the best four nights of our two week stay in France. I would recommend this place to anyone I know without any reservations. It is a wonderful place in a wonderful location owned by wonderful people (and dog)!

Things to do in this area

We spent a day with a guide from Overlord tours visiting Omaha and Utah beaches and other D day sites. We spent another entire day exploring Bayeux and Gold beach on our own. Our last day we drove to Mont. St Michele and then on to St. Malo. Would love to return and spend more time exploring the area.
