Review 4685: Villa Quatre Saisons, Upper Apartment
3bed/1.5bath apartment just outside Roussillon, Provence
June 5 - 12, 2010, One week
The house is about 500 yards up a gentle hill to the center of town. It's on one of the roads to Roussillon and a few yards down from a well known restaurant whose owners live at (they live in the rear) the restaurant. The area is removed from town and therefore has no noise. Parking is ample. You turn off the road and right into the driveway and into an open parking area. The house is shielded from the road by fencing and hedges though there's also little or no traffic.
Walking into the village was easy. We never used our car. The boulangerie and other stores and restaurants were within a five minute walk to town.
The house was in great shape. We had the upper floor. There is a separate apartment for rent downstairs. Both apartments though are fully equipped. Ours had three bedrooms, a toilet, a full bath with tub and shower, fully equipped kitchen, dining/living room, small office, basement with washer and drying stands, yard with drying lines, covered patio as well as uncovered area and a grill.
Very nice outside sitting area and furnished patio. No pool. Private.
The house was very clean as was the furniture and bedding, and on leaving the owner's manager checks the condition to determine what extra, if any, cleaning needs to be done. The house felt like home. There were numerous chairs and a leather sofa.
The beds were comfortable, the bedrooms nice, and there was a full bath and a a second separate toilet.
The kitchen is large with a small table (it would seat four) and wooden chairs. There were plenty of pots, pans, dishes, etc, even if not a matched set. We cooked twice as well as making coffee each morning for breakfast. Cooking was enjoyable, if not quaint too with the Centigrade reading oven. There is a microwave too.
Problems or Bonuses
There were no bad surprises. The house met our expectations and was as advertised. The web site accurately pictures each room.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
We had paid €550 for a week in the smaller apartment but because the larger one was not rented (normally for €800), the owner , who was there when we arrived because he was doing some fix-up work, allowed us to use the upper floor instead. He spoke English as did his manager. But once we were in there was no one on site. We did however have cell and land line phone numbers to reach her at any time.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
We would definitely stay here again. It's conveniently near town as well as the fact that the road outside the property leads directly to every other road you might need to travel in Provence.
Things to do in this area
We used the house as a base for all of our trips to the villages throughout Provence. Our Trip Report has more details of what we did and where we went while here
