Review 4710: Owner, La Tour
1bed/1bath apartment in Lyon, Rhone-Alpes
June 24 & 25 2010, 2 nights
La Tour is in the Vieux Ville, the Historic District of Lyon. The apartment is very quiet. It is on a pedestrian only street.
Everything we needed was just a short walk away, boulangeries, restaurants, and shops. A marché was just across the River Soane.
La Tour is a tower that is part of an old building that is in good condition. The rest of the building is apartments. We heard no noise from them except for someone playing a piano one afternoon. La Tour has been recently, tastefully decorated. There is an elevator up to the entrance of La Tour, but as it is a tower, with only one room per level, there are lots of stairs.
There is no outside area at all.
Everything in the apartment seems almost new and is very clean. Though the apartment only sleeps two, there are chairs for four to eat at the the bar/table.
The bed was comfortable and there is a closet with shelves for clothing. The bathroom was a short flight of stairs from the bedroom which could be a problem for some, but it wasn't for us. The bathroom was very clean and thick terry robes were provided. There is a shower instead of a tub, which we prefer.
The kitchen area is small, but there is everything you need to cook. Everything is top quality. We didn't cook dinner as we were there for such a short while, but we certainly could have. We used the kitchen for breakfasts and lunch.
Problems or Bonuses
The living room has beautiful 360 degree views of Lyon. My husband turned off the lights after dark and the effect was magical. The apartment is decorated beautifully. There is television, a stereo system, WiFi, and a telephone with free long distance calls.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
We dealt with Stéphane and found him charming. He speaks fluent English and was very patient when our flight was delayed due to a strike and we arrived very late. The owners do not live in the same building and you must arrange to meet them at the apartment. Stéphane was very helpful with answers to all our questions. The website gives a very accurate information about the apartment. The only surprise was the need for a damage deposit, which hadn't been mentioned. Fortunately we had plenty of cash with us. If we had a French bank account, a check would have been adequate. We didn't ask, but an American check might have been all we needed, but we hadn't brought any. We paid €230 for two nights. The per night price drops with each night you stay. It is €85 a night for seven nights.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
We would gladly stay at La Tour again and have already recommended it to some friends. The only reason someone might not be happy there would be the stairs, it is a tower with a circular staircase after all.
Things to do in this area
The Vieux Ville area of Lyon is charming. We only were in Lyon for two days so we haven't seen all of it, but it was our favorite area. Our son and his girlfriend, who lives in Lyon, took us to Les Halles where we ate some of the most amazing food I have ever tasted.
