2bed/2bath house near Blangy-sur-Bresle, Normandy
WhenJune 2010, 4 nights LocationTwo vacation rentals beside the owner's house, located in a rural hamlet of a few houses in northern Normandy on the border with Picardy in the Bresle Valley. We stayed in La Ferme, which is attached to the owner's house, but has its own outdoor areas and feels private. The other vacation rental on the property, La Grange, is not that close and has its own outdoor area. Nearby AmenitiesThe nearest town with cafes and shops is a 10 minute drive (Blangy-sur-Bresle). The House/ApartmentThis is a beautiful renovated historic farm house, typical of this area. The original timber frames are visible in the upstairs rooms. It was very peaceful and quiet. La Ferme is on two levels - the living room and dining room are one large room, with the kitchen off to the side. Upstairs are two bedrooms separated by a hallway. There are two vacation rentals, but the one we stayed in is only a vacation rental in the summer. Other times of year it is run as a B&B. GardenVery nice outdoor areas for sitting or eating outside. Each unit has their own outdoor area. The pool is shared and has plenty of nice loungers and chairs. Beautiful views of forests and the Bresle Valley from the house and the garden. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasFive star cleanliness and quality of furnishings. A comfortable couch and chair in the living room, dining table seating four. Plus an extra room off the kitchen, a glassed in porch, with a dining table and seating for four. Bedrooms/BathroomsVery comfortable bed with very nice bedding. Each bedroom has a bathroom; one with a bathtub, one with a shower. The only downside is that the bedrooms are very en suite - the bathroom is in the bedroom and separated only by a curtain - but this is because of the historic nature of the building and you get used to it. Bedroom and bathroom furnishings are beautiful. KitchenThe kitchen is not as elegant as the rest of the house but was very usable. We cooked breakfast and dinner here each day. Pots and pans could be better and Thomas is replacing them. Everything else was fine. Problems or BonusesThe surprise was the quality of furnishings. You don't expect to be this comfortable in a countryside vacation rental. Plus Thomas is an exceptional host. He lives full time on the property, in a house attached to La Ferme and is there if you need him. Agency and Representatives (and price)I booked directly with Thomas and paid with a bank wire. He also takes Paypal. He rents La Grange out by the week, but La Ferme is rented by the night. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?Recommended if you are wanting to explore northern Normandy and Picardy, or see the WWII and WWI sites. Things to do in this areaBasse Copette is just over an hour from the WWII sites (Omaha Beach), an hour from Dieppe, and an hour from WWI sites (The Somme). Less than an hour from Rouen which is a fabulous city. We did not get to Amiens to the north (under an hour) but it is supposed to be a very interesting city too. It is closer to other northern Normandy coastal towns. This part of Normandy felt remote to me, but I do not know this part of France.
