Review 4992: Owner, My Little Home In Paris (#151604)
studio apartment in 5th arrondissement, Paris
May 18, 2011, One week
The location of this little Home could not be better. From a quiet pedestrian street, the second-floor (US) apartment is reached through a small courtyard that you enter using a digicode. Place de la Contrescarpe with its many restaurants and cafés and rue Mouffetard with shops of all kinds are found at the end of the street.
We were able to get fresh croissants and chocolatines every morning from the bakery at the foot of the street. We found several grocery stores, as well as bakeries and cheese shops, on nearby rue Mouffetard.
The owners of the apartment told us that the building is 300 years old. It is clean and well maintained. While being quite small, the apartment is very well decorated and very comfortable. Sandy and Philippe have thought of everything: shopping basket, umbrellas, computer, iron/ironing board, and much more. They are also generous hosts: wine, fresh flowers, fruit, pastries, chocolate, bottled water were provided to us.
There was no outside sitting area. However, Place de la Contrescarpe with its many cafés is just a few steps away.
The apartment was spotless when we arrived. The furniture was comfortable and in good shape. The small kitchen is cheerfully decorated and well equipped: a two-ring stove, microwave, kettle, coffee maker, chopping board, good knives and forks. The bathroom, the largest room in the apartment, has an excellent shower. The king-size sofa bed is very comfortable. We stored our luggage in the small dressing room which also serves as an office with a telephone with free international calls, a computer and many books and guide books.
As mentioned above, the furniture was very comfortable.
We didn't cook because we had croissants or cereals in the morning and then set out for the day. On two occasions, we had pâté, cold cuts, cheese, fruit and wine for a late dinner.
Problems or Bonuses
This was my second stay in this Little Home. I found it to be as charming as ever. The surprise, a pleasant one, was that it had not changed at all.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
I've rented many gîtes and apartments and dealt with different owners over the years. Philippe and Sandy rate among the best. Since I was with my 16-year old grand-daughter this time (previously with DH), it was comforting to know that the owners were right around the corner and could help, if needed. Dealing with them via email was very easy. I sent a personal cheque as a deposit, which was given back to me when we arrived.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
I recommended this apartment to my family and friends in the past and will continue to do so. My Little Home in Paris is a charming place, if small, and I won't hesitate to rent it again when I return to Paris.
Things to do in this area
We enjoyed browsing in the quaint shops on rue Mouffetard and sipping wine or coffee at one of the many cafés on Place de la Constrescarpe. I liked the vibes of the Sorbonne area nearby with its numerous international students and small restaurants. We also enjoyed Place de la Sorbonne near boulevard Saint-Michel for a drink or a meal with friends in the evening.
