Review 505: Paris Vacation Apartments, Rue Charles Nodier
1bed/1bath apartment in Montmartre, Paris
Jan 2003, 10 days
The apartment is located in the Montmartre area, right below the Sacre Couer. We had an amazing view of the cathedral from our window and deck.
There are many grocery markets within walking distance of the apartment. The bakery we used every morning was right around the corner. Rue Abbesses has many coffee shops, boulangerie, fruit stores, fromageries, and cafes. Many evenings we picked something up from the markets and headed to the apartment for a gourmet meal.
We were in the penthouse of an 8 story building, very old with a tiny elevator. The apartment was in impeccable shape. There were many other apartments in the building, but we never heard anyone.
There is a private deck right outside the eating and living room area, with a small table and chairs. The view of Sacre Couer is marvelous.
The furniture is in good shape. The eating area had only 2 chairs and a tiny table, so we borrowed a chair from the living room. The apartment was impeccably clean.
The beds were very comfortable. There is a double bed and a double sleeper sofa in the living/bedroom so it is more like a large studio than a true 1 bedroom apt. There is one bathroom that is large. It has a shower/tub combo, a washer and dryer, many fluffy towels, and best of all a heated towel rack. The bathroom was very clean and also contained 2 cabinets filled with towels, ample toilet paper, some toiletries, cleaning products, including laundry soap. The hallway between the bathroom and kitchen area had 2 large closets that were big enough for all our clothes. (we are 3 adults)
The kitchen is small but very well equipped. It also included a small dishwasher. There were ample pots, pans, dishes, utensils. There is a very small 4 burner stove and oven that we used mostly to heat food we had brought in from the markets, but it is possible to cook a full meal if one chooses.
Problems or Bonuses
The apartment was much better than we had anticipated. I can't say enough about the view we had of the Basilique.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
The agency we dealt with, Paris Vacation Apartments, is first rate. They answered my emails immediately, sent an incredible amount of information about the apt. and the area before we even got there, answered any questions we had, even were able to make reservations for us for taxis, trains, and shows. We were met on arrival by Delphine, who showed us around the apt. showed us all the appliances, and had fresh flowers waiting for us when we arrived. She even called the next day to check on us. The owners, Erica Berman and Alex Mony were extremely helpful with any problems we had and Alex even was able to give us suggestions on things to do in Paris, considering we were first time visitors. Erica is American, Alex is French, both are fluently bilingual.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
I would use this agency again, definitely! I have already recommended them to anybody who will be going to Paris.
Things to do in this area
We came to this area in January, the month of "soldes" (sales). The area is known for having many fabric stores, so we came home with incredible buys on beautiful fabrics at incredibly low, low prices, including Provencal fabric that costs a fortune in the States.
