2bed/2bath apartment in 1st arrondissement, Paris

When

Sept. 25 - Oct. 5, 2011, 10 nights

Location

This apartment is on 30, rue de Montpensier in the 1st Arrondissement, in the Palais Royal. In the center of this building is a large garden area with a fountain, chairs to sit around the fountain and a lot of trees.

Nearby Amenities

There are at least eight restaurants (probably more)in the immediate area of this building, of varying price points. The boulangerie Au Grand Richelieu, at 51, rue de Richelieu is 5 minutes away, as well as wine & cheese shops. The grocery store, Monoprix on rue des Pyramides, is about a 10-15 minute walk. Marche Montorgeuil (one of the many market streets in Paris) is a 10 minute walk away.

The House/Apartment

This is a historical building ordered by Cardinal Richelieu and completed in 1636. This was an excellent apartment for two couples with two bedrooms located at opposite ends of the apartment. It's exactly as indicated on the website. Even though this a bustling area during the day, the restaurant just below this apartment closed before midnight. It was very quiet at night.

You can view the property directly: Palais Royale Elegant Two Bedroom.

Garden

Les jardins du Palais Royal are enclosed within this building and it's a lovely place to sit and people watch.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The furniture was in excellent shape, very clean, with enough seating for everyone. There were numerous books to read, as well as several guide books to peruse and plan our outings for the next day. Free Internet was provided as well as the use of an in-apartment computer.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

Beds were comfortable, with enough pillows. Each bedroom was air conditioned, and there was air conditioning in the living room. The bathrooms were large, with enough towels and facecloths as well as hand soap.

Kitchen

Although we didn't cook any meals, just coffee for breakfast, and some snacks in the afternoon there were more than enough pots and pans to do any type of cooking. There was a good-sized fridge, freezer and a microwave.

Upon our arrival, they provided croissants, an excellent bottle of wine, as well as more than enough coffee and tea to last our entire stay in the apartment.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

This agency is excellent. When we arrived, Pierre Louis spent at least an hour with us showing us the apartment, going over the proper use of the washer and drier, and giving us information about was available in our immediate area. All their staff speak English. When we had e-mailed them before our arrival, their response was immediate. They provided a very extensive, detailed binder with all the information we needed about the apartment and the area, including shopping and restaurant recommendations.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I would definitely recommend this agency to anyone. They are very professional. The Musee du Louvre is a 7 minute walk away. The bus and metro system is also very close and an excellent way to get around Paris.

Things to do in this area

In this immediate area we ate at Le Grand Colbert (I wouldn't recommend the food), but the venue is nice. Au Chien Que Fume at 33, rue du Pont Neuf was excellent about a 10 minute walk away. Le Bistrot Richelieu at 45, rue Richelieu with an evening meal of 19.90 for three courses was superb.
