1bed/1bath apartment in 5th arrondissement, Paris WhenMay 2009, 10 days LocationLatin Quarter/5th arrondissement, 71 Rue de Cardinal Lemoine, metro Cardinal Lemoine. About four blocks from Ile St Louis. In a gated courtyard with a few other apartment buildings. Very quiet and convenient area. Nearby AmenitiesAround the corner and/or up the street from supermarket, boulangeries, cafes, restaurants, and a marvelous open air food market (Rue Mouffetard). About five blocks from Berthillon, less to Rotisserie Beaujolais. The House/ApartmentGated entrance to courtyard (key code), key code to open building door. Six floors of apartments, maybe six per floor. Elevator building. Absolutely quiet and peaceful - never heard a peep from neighbors. Beautiful Art Deco building GardenOne of the best features was a large private rooftop terrace - beautiful views of Notre Dame, Pantheon, tin rooftops, etc. Table, chairs, lounger, potted plants. Not a soul in sight. Great spot for morning coffee and evening glass of wine to watch the sun set. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasComfortable, not lavish furniture. Couch, upholstered chairs in living room, low coffee table. Nice size dining room table with eight chairs. Beautiful bedroom with walk-in closet and wardrobe, good size dresser. King bed that can be made into two twins. Windows on two sides of the apartment for air circulation. Small balcony off bedroom. Very small kitchen with half-refrigerator (but freezer large enough for two "quarts" of Berthillon ice cream). Bedrooms/BathroomsVery comfortable beds - pillows not so much. Bathroom adequate - separate water closet and another sink. Washer/dryer combo was tucked under the sink in the bathroom and the counter top got very hot! Shower barely acceptable - lukewarm water and not much of it. Loft bedroom with desk and twin bed - access terrace through here. KitchenPretty much a one "man" kitchen - counter-space around two sides, small oven/stove-top, refrigerator, sink, etc. Apartment was well supplied with all cooking/serving/eating needs. Problems or BonusesWireless didn't work while we were there, but had Ethernet cable. Agency and Representatives (and price)I love this agency. We rented Rose from them in 2004 and loved that, too, but it was booked last time. They're very easy to deal with via email ahead of time. Sent an English speaking representative over on day one to show us how to work everything. If you book their driver from the airport, he will have the apartment keys and you can get right in instead of waiting until the office opens (if apartment is booked the night before this won't work, but you can book it yourself for that extra night). Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?Absolutely would stay here again. This review is very late, but I'm hoping to rent it again in 2014, so I was reminded to submit a review. It was close to everything I wanted yet had more of a "neighborhood" feel than some other rentals. Things to do in this areaWent to Rue Mouffetard market, walked everywhere! You can skip the Roman amphitheater nearby. Viaduc des Arts was worth a stroll. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
