Review 5344: Owner, Les Herissons
4bed/1.5bath house near Picauville, Normandy
May 3-7, 2012, four nights
David and I loved this gite. While we did not arrange a D-Day tour with Ben, we enjoyed the converted barn - with four bedrooms, huge living room, and the most charming kitchen you've ever seen - where we had every amenity imaginable. It would be difficult to find a more spacious and comfortable place in Normandy.
The furnishings were luxurious and beautiful. The downstairs consisted of a huge living room with dining alcove, an eat-in kitchen that may be the most charming we've ever seen, and a half bath with washing machine. Upstairs were four generously sized bedrooms and a truly wonderful bath with a shower and a tub. The walls are three-feet thick so each windowsill provided ample space for a still-life arrangement of simple materials that looked artistically arranged. Not only was the place beautifully decorated, but the thoughtful hosts had left us breakfast goodies for our first morning and a bottle of ale.
Truly, Ben and Jay were wonderful hosts, helping us (building us a roaring fire, for example) but never intrusive.
This rental has our highest recommendation. It is located in historic Picauville and very near St. Mer Eglise.
We paid €300 for four nights.
