3bed/3bath apartment in the 3rd arrondissement, Paris WhenJune 2-16, 16 days LocationThe Place des Vosges apartment is located on the second level overlooking the park. It is in the middle of the city known as the Marais. The location is vibrant and lively, but at the same time is incredibly intimate and quiet. You enter the courtyard by keying in your code. Extremely quiet and relaxing. Nearby AmenitiesEvery morning if you choose to do so, is a wonderful Cafe below with wonderful pastries that our kids ran down to pick up every morning and bring up to our kitchen. Or for a lovely breakfast there are a number of cafes around the square. It is close to many small grocers, and for a supermarket atmosphere, a large Monoprix within easy walking distance. You can easily walk to everything. The House/ApartmentThe apartment was in a beautiful historical building. The building was in perfect shape. Taken care of extremely well and clean! Once inside the court yard, you could see other apartment windows facing the court yard but because of the extreme quiet and solitude, I had no reason to wonder about them. I didn't realize how many floors there were, three? I was so content to return to our apartment. And once inside you were transported to another time period! With no noise from other tenants I felt completely solitary in the apartment. GardenSecond floor, no outside area. Apartment had wonderful small balconies that you could look out and ponder what it was like long ago looking at the park. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe apartment is decorated in beautiful antiques and incredible fabrics. It was in perfect shape, some more comfortable than others, but always able to sink into the giant sofas and again look out the tall windows at a bygone era. It was immaculate in every way and plenty of furniture to seat everyone. Bedrooms/BathroomsThe beds were extremely comfortable especially the high thread count sheets! Bathrooms are exquisitely detailed. The master bathroom does need some more light. KitchenThe kitchen was equipped nicely with most everything you would need. Good quality pots and pans. Personally I would like more place settings so you don't run out of dishes so quick and more flatware. Pretty much one meal for four and the flatware was used up at once along with the dishes, and glassware. I did enjoy cooking on the stove and using the oven. I am a cook and the La Canche was awesome! Problems or BonusesThe only negative for us was the maid. My own home is similar to the apartments, living with antiques and old (only 85!) I try to take a 'vacation' from workers and housekeepers when I go away. I understand most people like housekeeping, but I found myself worrying about when she was going to show up or leave! I would strongly suggest there be a set time when she may come. She made my son get out of bed to clean the room. Unfortunately I was out at the time. Personally for me three times a week would be more than enough housekeeping. You can't please everyone I know that and it is solely subjective! A suggestion may be to customize the housekeeper based on the renters needs. Agency and Representatives (and price)There is a reason my descriptive name is perfectionist. The apartment 'exceeded' my expectations in every way. Every photo on the website was completely reflective in person or better! Our go to person on the website, was a delightful French woman named Pat. So it was perfect to get into the mood early, listening to her accent! The agency answered all my questions in a timely manner and I had many. When we arrived, the onsite person spoke perfect English(was American) and had great recommendations to give. The apartment was give or take 12,000.00 a week. We stayed for 16 days. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others? In a heartbeat. I want to own the apartment! Yes, I would recommend it to my best friend! Any chance I have, I would stay at the Vosges Royal! Things to do in this areaThe area is for strolling, shopping, eating, and relaxing and taking in the atmosphere of Paris neighborhood life. Listening to the fantastic street music around this neighborhood will give you an instant souvenir in the form of a CD for usually 10euros to bring home to remember. Restaurant Carette right below the apartment, made our 'quick' walking lunches complete with the wonderful baguette sandwiches, and a quiet respite late night for a comfortable relaxing dinner.
