2bed/1bath apartment in Montmartre, Paris

When

April 9-16, 2012, 1 week

Location

Montmartre (18th). Perfect location, convenient to everything. Great apartment for a family (we are four, with two girls 10 and 14).

Nearby Amenities

Apartment is literally three or four minute walk to the metro (Abbesses), and the same to Rue Abbesses where all the food shops, bakeries, wine shops are.

Everything you could possibly want was minutes from the apartment on Rue des Abbesses and Rue Lepic. Along with the bread, wine, cheese, and seafood shops were two larger grocery shops within easy walking distance. Plenty of restaurants, cafe's, and the like all around.

There were many interesting shops all around the neighborhood.

The House/Apartment

The apartment was on Rue d'Orchampt in a historical building. Old building, but very charming. The apartment was on the top (fifth) floor with the smallest (but totally functional) elevator I have ever seen. There appeared to be two to three apartments per floor, and it appeared to be a mix of residents and rentals.

The street was a very quiet and nice street, there was some graffiti around, but the area was perfectly safe. We came and went at all times of the day and evening and never had a worry about safety.

The elevator is the absolute smallest I have ever seen, but it did do the job fine - although three people is max (we did two trips up/down with two people in the elevator).

Garden

No garden or private seating area.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The furnishings in the apartment were in very good shape. The apartment itself was very clean.

The layout of the living area is very good, as it lets you live in the apartment even when someone is sleeping. Enough chairs and seating for four or six, though eating with six would be tight.

WiFi worked like a champ, and the TV was fine, although we did not spend too much time using the TV or figuring it out.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

This was a true two-bedroom apartment. The second bedroom was off the first, so it is very suited for families.

All the beds were very comfortable. Bunk beds in the second bedroom were great for the kids. The windows open nicely to allow for ventilation. Nice views from all the windows, although you do need to stand by them to see the views.

Bedrooms are not large, but big enough to easily move around in without feeling crowded. Nice closet space in each bedroom.

The bathroom, which contains the bath and sink, and washer/dryer, is off the main bedroom, which is fine for families. Washer/dryer worked great, so you do not need to over-pack. Towels were large and sheets were fine and enough for everyone.

The toilet with a small sink is near the front entrance to the apartment, which initially was strange, but worked out very well. When someone is bathing, the toilet being apart is very useful.

Kitchen

The kitchen is small but very functional. Good pans, plates, glasses, utensils (but needs a good sharp serrated knife). While we did not go crazy cooking, we did do enough that preparing meals was easy. We did cook some for dinners (pasta/seafood/etc), as well as eggs and other breakfast foods.

Great dishwasher and large fridge.

The space for eating is fine for four, but would be tight for six.

Problems or Bonuses

Getting keys/drop off key process was great, since you did not need to arrange an appointment, you do it on your time. Good directions for how to do it. I wish I knew about how to turn on the lights in hallways before trying to get the keys in the evening (I eventually figured that out).

Wireless internet and phone worked perfectly.

We had a medical issue for our youngest, and Americana in Parigi referred us to her own doctor.

The only thing I would have desired was a standup shower. The bathtub and hand held shower worked fine though, that is just my nitpick.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

InBeauParis was the agency (operating via VRBO). We corresponded with Jean-Nol and Karen via email, and that process was perfect. All deposits and payments can be done via PayPal, so you do not have to carry large amounts of cash. The description of the listing is spot on and very accurate.

The key retrieval and drop-off procedure is great - keys in a lock-box so you do not have to make an appointment to retrieve or drop off keys. Location is just at the end of the street (100m).

We paid 1010 plus 89 cleaning fee (and we also paid additional 3.9% to pay via PayPal) for the four of us.

Pictures are very accurate for the apartment.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

We absolutely loved this place. Americana in Parigi initially recommended the agency and Jean-Nol in particular, and this made us very comfortable in the process.

We are looking to come back to Paris and absolutely would stay here again, or in any of the other apartments of InBeauParis without hesitation. All communications were handled quickly, the information was accurate, and the experience great.

Things to do in this area

Just walking along Rue des Abbesses and shopping was fun. Americana suggested some vintage shops in the area, as well as a street festival/market just below the Pigale metro stop (15-20 minute walk).

The Sacre-Couer is a five-minute walk up the hill, as well as the Place du Tertre. Those were the tourisy areas! When we walked along Rue des Abbesses we felt like we lived there.
