Studio apartment near Cargese, Corsica
WhenOctober 2012, 1 week LocationThe studio apartment was 2km from Cargese and a very short walk to Pero beach. It was part of a much larger home, called Villa La Bougainvillée. It was in a rural/beach area, one of a number of nice homes in the area. Nearby AmenitiesWhile we were very close to a restaurant (Ta Kladia), and we did walk into Cargese once, a car would be essential for this rental. There are several restaurants and a SPAR supermarket in Cargese. Also, there are larger supermarkets in the area. The House/ApartmentThe main house was quite nice with an attractive and well-maintained lawn & garden area. Our apartment was very adequate. I think it was a bit large for a studio apartment. A nice feature of the apartment was that it was close enough to the beach that you could hear the waves breaking on the shore at night. GardenThere was a small terrace with a plastic table and chairs. It got the morning sun and in the afternoon it was a great place to relax with a glass of wine or a Pietra beer. Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living AreasThe apartment was very clean; the furniture was OK. Bedrooms/BathroomsThere were two beds in the apartment, a double with a curtain separating it from the kitchen/sitting room area and a single bed near the door. The double bed was fine. KitchenThe kitchen was well-equipped and included a gas stove. We prepared breakfast daily and dinners three evenings in the apartment - no problems. Problems or BonusesWe were very pleased with this rental. The apartment met or exceeded our expectations. I went swimming in the sea twice each day - in the early morning and late afternoon - very refreshing. Agency and Representatives (and price)I dealt directly with the owner by email and Skype. She lives in Belgium; the onsite people are her very pleasant parents who speak French, German and limited English. We paid €270 for a week in October; the price rises to €550 per week in the high season. Do you recommend this vacation rental to others? This was a very good location for exploring the west coast of Corsica. I would recommend it to anybody (up to three people) thinking of staying in the area. Things to do in this areaPossible day trips/activities: Ajaccio, the mountains behind Sargone, Piana (one of Les Plus Beaux Villages do France), drive up the west coast, boat trip from Cargese, Sartene and the surrounding area, beach time - for a start. Cargese and the surrounding villages have limited shopping and there are several restaurants in the area. The best shopping is in Ajaccio.
