4bed/4bath house in Monflanquin, Aquitaine

When

June 2012, One week

Location

The house was in a great location for day trips in any direction. It's approximately midway between Bordeaux and Toulouse. We were a five minute walk from the centre of Monflanquin, one of 'un des plus beaux villages de France'.

It's on a 1/2 acre with lots of outdoor space. There are neighbours, but pretty quiet.

Nearby Amenities

Monflanquin was a five minute walk, uphill. There were stairs leading up to the main street or you could walk up the hill.

There were a couple of small markets, bakeries, meat shop and quite a few nice restaurants and cafes.

A bigger bakery and a Casino market were a two minute drive.

The House/Apartment

The house is beautiful. Completely renovated stone or brick home, I believe it's over 100 years old.

It's great for three or four couples (we were three couples and had plenty of spots to be on your own). Lots of space. Bedrooms are a good size, three with en suite. One large bathroom right outside the door of the bedroom that isn't en suite. There was also a half bathroom (i.e., water closet) in the main hallway. Nice big showers and lots of space in the bathrooms. Comfy beds and large closets.

All but one of the bedrooms are off of a large central hallway. The other is off the living room.

The living room was very nice with comfy leather furniture.

Garden

The yard is big! One large flagstone patio right off the the kitchen/dining room and another covered pergola that you get to from the front door. Lots of room to play bocce/boules or croquet.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The house was immaculate. All the furniture was very comfortable. Lots of chairs in the dining room as well as bars on either side of the kitchen with stools.

Lots out outdoor furniture. A couple of lounge chairs as well as plastic patio chairs. One table, that was easily moved back and forth from the kitchen patio to the pergola.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

There was a big laundry room with a washing machine and cupboards full of extra towels, sheets etc.

Kitchen

There's a beautiful kitchen and a large dining room with a huge table. A great stove! Full size fridge and lots of counter and cupboard space.

Lots of pots, pans, utensils and dishes.

A great place to cook and just hang out. Lots of plugs for charging phones, cameras and laptops.

Problems or Bonuses

The house looked great in the pictures and was even better when we arrived. It is very well kept. We knew it was a good size, but were surprised by just how much room there was.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

The owner was great to deal with. For us, being in Vancouver and the owner also being in Vancouver was really a convenience for making payments and contacting him.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

We would definitely stay here again. The location was awesome, the house huge and super clean.

Things to do in this area

We did day trips just about every day. Bergerac, Sarlat, Cahors ... all are within an hour or so drive. Many other beautiful bastides in that area. They provide a great binder full of information on what to see and daily markets.
