Vacation rentals in France (farms, cottages, gites, apartments)
Review 5460: La Bastide des Muriers, Chez Marcel
1bed/1bath house near Les Arcs - Draugignan, Provence
10/30/12, 1 week
Nice country location in the vineyards near La Arcs by Draguignan - very quiet and part of two gites - ours was for a couple while the other was a large home for six persons. No near homes.
None - need to drive 20 minutes to Les Arcs to boulangeries etc. Very large shopping complex including grocery store in 10 minutes.
Not historical - was in very good shape - was very peaceful and quiet. It is a separate home with two levels - the bottom for kitchen, bath and living room with the bedroom upstairs through narrow steps.
Much large gite next door which was very nice for six-plus people.
Very nice looking into vineyards and hills. There is a pool of moderate size.
The furniture was good but dated. Not quite antiques. It was very clean and good appointments for two people with two chairs TV and dining table with fire place.
Nice bed upstairs. Was quite large with wardrobe and chairs and queen bed.
The bath was small but had a good shower and heater in the room.
Small kitchen with four burners and microwave - dishes were complete but a bit mixed in size and shape and quality. Little cooking done although it could be done for moderate meals.
Problems or Bonuses
Directions to the gite were quite bad. But overall a very nice place and lovely owner who was helpful when asked - she took us to train station at 7am! She spoke English well.
We were able to visit with Lyon family in the next gite which was fun for French prospective.
Directions to the gite were quite bad even with GPS.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
Gites de France - var.fr - very cooperative and responsive with good payment system with PayPal like system.
We paid €280 for the week including fees, insurance etc., - very good value I feel. This was the low season with €415 in the high season - still good with pool etc.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
Yes we would stay again. Regional and quiet and nice owner - wish she would come around more to check on us!
Things to do in this area
there were a lot of hill towns, St Tropez etc., on the Mediterranean to visit. Plenty to see although a bit boring versus other parts of Provence we have visited nearer to Avignon.
Plenty of restaurants in the hill towns of high quality and in the Med cities.
I did not like the Cote de Provence wines as well as the Cote de Rhone wines however. Plenty of coops for cheap samples.
