Review 5476: La Porte Bleu, Apartment

Review by Kathryn J from OK

1bed/1bath apartment in Amboise, Loire Valley

October 2012, 3 days

The location of the apartment was on the island in the middle of the river in Amboise. It faced the chateau in Amboise - the view was amazing. It was in attached buildings but was quiet.

Nearby Amenities

The nearest restaurant was about five minutes walk away. Everything else was reached by driving. It would have been possible to walk to grocery stores and restaurants if the weather had been warmer. It would have been about 15 minutes walking. To drive to restaurants, groceries, boulangeries, etc. took about 3-5 minutes.

The House/Apartment

The building was quite old but the apartment itself had been restored and was lovely and up to date. It was quiet even though there was an apartment upstairs. We heard people on the stairs once or twice but didn't hear them above us. The basement in the building gave an indication of the age of the building - old creaky stairs, with low ceilings - but really interesting to see.

There was no outside sitting area.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The furniture was in good shape and was comfortable. Everything was very clean and there were plenty of chairs in the living and dining rooms.

The beds were comfortable and the bedroom, though not fancy, had good storage and adequate lighting. There was one bathroom with a lovely, large tiled shower. The toilet was in a small separate room inside the bathroom. The bathroom was very spacious.

The kitchen was very usable for coffee and warming things - with a microwave and coffee pot. I didn't cook but it appeared as though there would have been adequate pots and pans. There were definitely enough dishes, glasses, etc.

Problems or Bonuses

No surprises other than the apartment was larger than it appears online and the view was even more amazing than the pictures.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

The owner, Chantal, was lovely. She spoke some English - enough for emails arranging the stay and to help us while there. She was very responsive to emails and great to work with.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

I would definitely stay here again and would recommend to anyone who needed a one bedroom apartment. It would sleep three and was definitely big enough for three. Walking outside the front door and seeing the chateau and river was a definite plus.

Things to do in this area

There are many things to do in the Amboise area and Amboise itself is lovely, especially the Sunday market. My only regret is that we didn't stay longer.
