studio apartment in the 5th arrondissement, Paris

Studio apartment in Paris, photo by

When

April 21-27, 2013, 6 nights

Location

The studio in a building on Quai de la Tournelle, just across from Ile St Louis. It is a ground floor studio at the back of the building, so feels very private. We loved the location! A few steps from the Seine and a stunning view of Notre Dame (itself only a couple minutes' walk away). Easy access to public transportation, and also well situated just to wander around and enjoy the sights and sounds of Paris.

Nearby Amenities

Everything we needed was within easy walking distance. A well stocked Franprix supermarket is 300m away on Rue de Poissy, and there were many, many restaurants within a couple blocks' radius. Bus and Metro stops were also close by.

The House/Apartment

The five to six story building (19th c) was in great shape, with a very clean and well lit entrance hall to the apartment. I believe most of the other tenants in the building were residents. Being on the ground floor, we had no occasion to use the elevator or stairs, except the set leading down to the remarkably clean garbage/recyclables room.

Garden

There is a lovely terrace, with a table and chairs for outdoor dining, as well as one lounge chair. It is for the exclusive use of studio guests, except someone occasionally and unobtrusively mows the grass and waters the plants. Use is restricted to the terrace, not the lawn, but it is still a fabulous feature.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

The apartment was spotlessly clean and the furniture was comfortable. There was a sofa and easy chair for relaxing, and a table and chairs for meals. Also a desk with a decent selection of guidebooks/tourist resources and a few novels. Free WiFi was provided, as well as a TV with English channels. It is a studio, but so well laid out and spacious that it felt like a one bedroom apartment.

Bedrooms/Bathrooms

There was one bed, I would say queen sized, which was surprisingly comfortable. We slept very well every night. I feared the lack of curtain on the big dining room window might be a problem, but the apartment faces south (or southwest), so the morning sun did not disturb our slumbers.

The bathroom was bright, clean and modern. It had a fantastic walk-in shower with a large shower head, lots of hot water and pressure. And we appreciated the heated towel rack. (Wish I had one of those at home!)

Kitchen

The galley kitchen was very well stocked, both with good quality dishes/pots and with condiments. We did not end up cooking any big meals in the apartment, but that was by choice and not because the kitchen was lacking. There is a wall (windows on the top half that open) between the kitchen and the living area, adding to the feeling of this being a much larger apartment than it actually was.

Problems or Bonuses

No real surprises, other than how delightful this place turned out to be! It had almost felt too good to be true, but indeed it is everything promised on the website.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Eric, the owner, is a lovely and friendly man, readily available to answer any questions or resolve any problems (not that we had any!) The apartment is €800 per week (in April). We paid a deposit of €400 in advance through PayPal, and the rest by cash on arrival. We also had to provide a refundable security deposit of €500 (we gave cash on arrival, and received the same back when we checked out.)

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

Yes I would recommend this to my best friend without hesitation! And would love to return for another stay myself.

Things to do in this area

There is no end of things to do in this area ... Notre Dame, Saint Chapelle, the Cluny Museum, the Pantheon and the Saint Michel district are a short walk. Just around the corner you are in the Latin Quarter. Just wander around and breathe in the scene!

We had a fabulous meal at La Rôtisserie, right next door. And we thoroughly enjoyed sampling the glaces and sorbets of La Maison Berthillon on Ile St. Louis!
