Review 655: Paris Perfect, Bordeaux

Review by Carolyn from CA

2bed/2bath apartment in 7th arrondissement, Paris

August 3-13, 10 nights

The Paris Perfect Bordeaux apartment is located just a few blocks from the Eiffel Tower in the 7th arrondissement. In fact, you can see the Tower from the apartment's balcony! The apartment is very quiet and private for a city apartment. Being close to the Champs de Mars is a great asset if you have children - great place to let them run off steam. It's a ten minute walk to the Invalides. The Alma RER station is five minutes away and the metro is also close - about 3 blocks.

Nearby Amenities

The apartment is on Rue St. Dominique, a street that has numerous food shops and good restaurants. There is a supermarket four doors down. Directly across the street from the apartment is a very good Cafe. Rue Cler, a major market street, is a five minute walk away.

The House/Apartment

The building is 200 years old - very typically of Paris buildings. It is six stories tall. There is a small elevator. About the only negative about this apartment was the entry hall to the building. Although clean, it had some peeling paint and bare light fixtures.

There is a narrow balcony running along the edge of the living room that overlooks Rue St. Dominique. Just big enough for a two person table and chairs.

Furnishings/Cleanliness/Living Areas

We found this apartment to be very well furnished compared to other apartment/houses we have stayed in in Europe. Downstairs, there were a number of antiques, two comfortable couches, and 4 person dining table. Upstairs, the beds were very comfortable with good mattresses. The linens and towels were very good quantity and in ample supply.

The bedrooms were both very nice. Like most apartments in Paris, they were not huge but they were comfortable. They both have an incredible view of the Eiffel Tower - we could lay in bed and see the lights of the tower in our mirror. Mattresses were good quality and very comfortable. In the master bedroom there is tons of builtin closet space that made it easy to unpack and feel at home. The master bedroom opens to a bath with a huge tub and shower. The second bedroom has a smaller bath. The toilet for both rooms is in a separate room in the hall.

This is a fantastic kitchen for a Paris apartment! This was the owner's own apartment at one time and the wife was American. She had a large American-style kitchen put in and it is great. There is even a full-sized refrigerator and freezer, something we have never found in another European rental. Everything you need for cooking seemed to be available, although we didn't do much cooking because we were there during a record-breaking heat wave!

Problems or Bonuses

The apartment is very spacious for Paris. It's on two floors with a spiral staircase going up to the bedrooms so it feels more like a house than an apartment. We really liked how much light there was during the day. The view was absolutely breathtaking - you felt like the Eiffel Tower was yours! The owners were great - they even arranged transportation for us to and from the airport. The apartment was spotless and beautiful (we had a momentary pause when we saw the building's entrance way) with everything needed to make it home for 10 nights. Carolyn, the manager is an American (she's the owner's sister) who lives in the neighborhood and was extremely welcoming and gave us a good run down of where everything was in the neighborhood. While we were staying there, she took us to see two of the other apartments owned by Paris Perfect and they were both very nice. She had a basket full of supplies (tissue paper, toilet paper, paper towels), goodies (cookies and crackers and a bottle of wine) waiting for us. One nice touch - she gave us a long hand made cotton bread holder to hold our fresh bagettes and told us that it was for us to take home as a souvenir of our stay. Everything in the apartment worked very well so there were no unfortunate surprises but Carolyn had given us her cell phone number to call if we needed anything. The apartment wasn't air conditioned but had fans in every room. In an average summer, that probably would have been enough to stay comfortable but since the temps soared to 104 degrees for several days during our stay, air conditioning would have been great!

Overall, we were very pleased with our experience and stay.

Agency and Representatives (and price)

Excellent - Paris Perfect is owned by a couple (French husband, American wife)who used to live in the neighborhood but now live in London. They were very helpful and easy to deal with via email, even arranging our transportation for us. They also accepted a US check so we didn't have to hassle with a wire transfer as in past rentals. They sent a full package of information with recommendations about local shops and restaurants. The manager, as discussed above, was wonderful and very friendly and helpful.

Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?

YES! If you want to stay in an apartment in Paris, this apartment and the others we saw in the Paris Perfect portfolio are excellent choices. Even with the heat, we really were happy with our choice. There are cheaper apartments available but we felt we received very good value for our money. Everything was just as promised.

Things to do in this area

The Eiffel Tower and the Champs de Mar are within a five minute walk. The Trocadero is just across the river. The Invalides is about ten minutes walk. You could walk to the Musee D'Orsay from here but it was too hot for us! We splurged on a meal at the Jules Verne Restaurant on top of the Eiffel Tower (make reservations as far in advance as possible!) and had a very memorable meal - 4 star service and food with a ten star view.
