Review 729: Chez Nous, Village House in Mougins (#13449)
2bed house in Mougins, Provence
September 2003, one week
Mougins is the gourmet epicentre of France so definitely an excellent base for those who enjoy the culinary arts. It is also a delightful village within easy reach of Cannes, Grasse, Nice and all the joys of the Alpes Maritime. The village terraced house had just been newly renovated to a very high standard.
Although only a few steps away from the main "Place" the house was quietly situated.
Easy walk to many restaurants but a 5 minute drive to the nearest supermarket.
The house is old with 3 storeys, in tip top shape with an Artists shop next door.
A small, delightful roof top terrace with distant views to the coast furnished with good wrought iron table and chairs and lots of cushions. Very private and sunny from about 10 am to 4:30 pm.
The house was beautifully furnished with some antiques, plenty of chairs for everyone in the sitting room, kitchen diner and roof top terrace. A good music system and lots of books and information about the area. It was in pristine condition.
Our bedroom was very comfortable with many thoughtful touches like a radio clock, good storage and nice linens. Both bedrooms were ensuite and both were super. An excellent power shower in the twin and bath in the double. The bathrooms both had excellent lighting, lovely tiles, good towels and plenty of hot water. Definitely first class.
The kitchen/diner was on the top floor adjacent to the roof terrace. A very attractive room with a good dining table and plenty of utensils. There was a washer dryer, dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker and just about anything you could desire. Crockery and glasses were bountiful and very nicely chosen.
Problems or Bonuses
The bonus was just how lovely the house was. Renovated with much style and panache as well as love and care!
A very good base for this most stylish area and very affordable rentals means this house will book up early so I am being generous in writing this "review"! Definitely not for the fainthearted as the house is on 3 floors and it is a steep walk of several minutes to the car park as Mougins does not allow cars to enter. Probably not suitable for children.
We did notice a little noise from one of the adjoining terraced houses on one or two mornings.
Agency and Representatives (and price)
The owner was very efficient and helpful. The onsite representative charming and efficient who spoke fairly good English. The web site mirrored the accommodation as precisely as you could hope for.
Do you recommend this vacation rental to others?
Highly recommended but see note above about stairs and car parking.
Things to do in this area
Eat, swim, walk, shop in Cannes or Nice, numerous galleries including Foundation Maeght, Matisse's Chapel of the Rosaire, Renoir's house, and MAMAC. Full listings in the highly recommended "Artists of the Riviera and Their Museums " by Barbara F. Freed.
Many perched villages to explore as well as the Gorges du Loup and some good beaches south of Cannes. We particularly enjoyed exploring Eze the most perched of perched villages and we spent a very happy day in Monaco where the aquarium should be high on your list of must sees as well as the views from the roof.
