2 bed/2 bath house in Saignon, Provence

There's not much to add to Kathy Wood's (from Memphis, TN) thorough, thoughtful, and very favorable review of Rose Cottage already posted, but we did want to second her enthusiasm for it. Saignon is a delightfully quiet and attractive hill-top village and Rose Cottage itself met and exceeded all of our expectations. The owner, Henrietta Taylor, has provided everything in terms of equipment that one might want, and the house is both entirely servicable and uncommonly comfortable.

The only disadvantage I can think of is that to venture out to most places one has to drive through Apt, the traffic in which can be a bit tedious, but this is really a trifling matter.

In any case Saignon provides a good base for day trips in all directions -- we went as far south as Cassis one day, north to Vaison-le-Romaine and some of the Cote de Rhone wine villages another, and west to the Pont de Gard and Uzes on a third and Avignon on a fourth. Bonnieux, Rousillon, and Gordes are in easy striking distance. We had fine days and so did get on the road most days but remaining in Saignon on a rainy one -- or just to chill out -- would be enjoyable too. We would certainly return to Rose Cottage again.
