Notes: Favorite churches in Rome recommended on Slow Talk (plus a couple of palaces recommended for their frescoes (F).)

Historical Buildings

Palazzo Barberini (F) (SV)

Frescoes recommended by Bill Thayer: "On the sheer kitsch side, my favorite so far is the ceiling by Pietro da Cortona in the Palazzo Barberini in Rome. It's attractive as a composition and as colors, it's a tour de force for some of the trompe-l'?il ? and it's really nasty and bizarre when you actually look at the subject matter."

Villa Farnesina (F) (SV)

KT recommended the fresco of "Galatea by Raphael. All of the villa's frescoes are worth a look - for trompe l'oeil fans (or Rome fans), there's a room there with nice trompe l'oeil views of Rome by Baldassare Peruzzi."
Jane agreed with the recommendation: "I am afraid that many people don't go here. I hope they do!"

Nicoline Chapel (F) (SV)

The Nicoline Chapel (Nicholas V's Chapel) lies within the Vatican Museums. Its walls were frescoed by Fra Angelico. Recommended by Bill Thayer.

S Agnese Outside The Walls (SV)

- off the beaten path in Rome, but worth seeing. St Agnese also has catacombs under it.
