Bar Gallo in Panicale, Umbria
Bar Gallo on the main piazza in Panicale, Umbria (south of Lake Trasimeno,
near Chiusi), owner: Aldo Gallo
Panicale is a delightful small hill town in Umbria, near the Tuscany
border, south of Lake Trasimeno. Gallo's Bar is a very typical bar for
a small town, but it is made special by Aldo Gallo and his wife and by
the number of people who like to hang out at the caffe. When we spent
two weeks outside of Panicale in 1999, we went to Gallo's most days for
our morning coffee and returned for afternoon coffee.

Il Caffe in Pienza, Tuscany
Il Caffe, on the main piazza of Pienza (outside the city walls), Tuscany
(south of Siena, near Montepulciano), closed Tuesday, owners: Anselmi
and Monachini
Pienza is a beautiful small hill town in the Crete Senesi, south of
Siena. Il Caffe is a typical caffe for a small town. When we spent 3 weeks
in the countryside near Pienza in 2001, we visited this caffe most days.

Bar Il Caffe in Cetona, Tuscany
Bar Il Caffe, on the main piazza in Cetona, in southern Tuscany. In
September 2002 we spent two weeks in a house in Cetona and visited this
caffe most days for our morning coffee.

Bar Daniela in San Casciano, Tuscany
Bar Daniela is on the main piazza in the small spa town of San Casciano
dei Bagni, in southern Tuscany, south of Cetona. This is a lovely town
with a hot springs resort. This caffe is run by the people who run the
excellent restaurant, Ristorante Daniela. The caffe is very nice, with
seating outdoors on the piazza.

Miscellaneous Caffe Photos for Tuscany
Most towns in Tuscany have at least one caffe. Here are some photos
from caffes in Castelmuzio (near Pienza), Siena, and other towns. Photos
of the caffes, coffee drinks and alcohol drinks.

Barolino in Levanto, Liguria
Levanto is a wonderful beach town in Liguria, just north of the famous
Cinque Terre. We spent two weeks here in September 2003 and Barolino was
our favorite caffe.

Franco & Valentino in Sorrento, Campania
Pasticceria Franco & Valentino, V. Degli Aranci 29D, Sorrento (near
the Amalfi coast in Campania)
This was the closest caffe to our Sorrento apartment in 2001. We had
coffee here most mornings.
Franco & Valentino is a caffe and a pastry shop. We bought pastries
from here a few times and they were very good. They had a huge selection
of little cookies and lovely pastries.
