Fantasic country hotel 100 km north of FCO, 20 km south of Orvieto. 20 large rooms/bath. Castle-like atmosphere & dining. Private hilltop surrounded by vineyards.

This is a converted country convent remodeled with great taste into large comfortable rooms and baths. Arriving in Rome, this is a great stopover one and half hours North, but do consider staying a few nights. We stayed a week and toured Lazio, southern Tuscany and Umbria.

Diego, the owner and chef, his lovely wife Ulla, and their daughter, Serena, who holds a degree from the school of culinary art, speak English and will make your stay memorable.

On the top floor of the castle, Diego has completed a second kitchen, large dining area and ballroom to cater small weddings of up to 150. You have to see the setting to see how beautiful it is. They even have their own chapel for the wedding service.

In addition to about 20 rooms in the castle, there are 3 independent cottages on the property but without full kitchens.

However, attached to the castle is a 3BDR/3Bath self-catering appartment, with full kitchen that we rented for the week. Some of the rooms are small but it was very clean and comfortable. We ate dinner in the main castle hall several nights and also cooked our own several times after finding some great bakery, pasta, and fresh grocery shops in nearby Bagnoregio.

Our apartment was US$900/week (prepaid and split between our three couples), and they charged $45/person for their delicious dinners including wine. We will go back again. It's a great spot for a wedding or honeymoon.
