A budget location for touring the Cinque Terre
For our three night stay in the Cinque Terre we chose to stay in Levanto, just north of the Cinque Terre, but well connected to all by the local train. L'Erba Persa was about a 10 minute walk from the train station, and about a 15 minute walk from the center of Levanto.
L'Erba Persa is definitely not handicap accessible, but I don't imagine that many people with mobility issues frequent the Cinque Terre. To enter the house you have to climb a full flight of stairs that really aren't in the best of shape. Nothing too serious, but you will have to haul your luggage up these outer steps, as well and an interior set of stairs. We consolidated our luggage into one suitcase and left the other in the car for our stay.
Secure parking was available at L'Erba Persa at no additional charge, and if you're arriving by train the owners will pick you up at the station.
Our room was large but very simple. A large bed, dresser, armadio and a small table with two chairs. The bathroom, at the other end of the hall, was shared with several other rooms and was adequate.
The morning breakfast was quite hearty and offered lots of choices. Free internet access is offered in the breakfast room/lounge. Our hosts were very friendly and helpful. For the two of us, including breakfast we paid €50/night.

Olive oil, vegetables and wonderful hosts in a comfortable and very pleasant agriturismo that remains in your heart long after the visit.
I can only agree with the previous review (by "hail_caledonia") - L'erba Persa is a great agriturismo that served us as a perfect base to tour the area of Levanto, including the Cinque Terre. The warm hospitality of Grazia and Claudio made the stay here a wonderful experience that we would be very happy to repeat.
A few additional points:
The agricultural focus has shifted from horticulture to vegetables - Claudio grows a variety of them, is very emphatic about using organic methods only, and markets them to local businesses. He is also very passionate about the olive trees he cultivates; a special type of small black olive that is rich in oil, and grows only in this region.
There is a good supermarket right opposite the house, so that on the way to and from the train station, it is possible to buy whatever food might be needed.
We had the room with the private bathroom - all was very comfortable, functional and clean, with a door to an exterior porch.
The delicious breakfasts were in a common room that also serves as a meeting place for guests, with an interesting library and family mementos. In the hall outside the rooms there are also shelves with a collection of books and magazines for the guests.
Claudio is a hard-working farmer, with many stories to relate of his work in the past in the merchant marine, as well as his present occupation with farming. Both he and and Grazia speak English well, and make you feel part of the home and family.
Highly recommended for anyone looking for great hospitality, home atmosphere, and convenience at budget prices.

Fabulous & peaceful B&B with wonderful breakfasts served outside in the garden. Perfect base for exploring the Cinque Terre.
L'Erba Persa is a very basic but fabulous B&B about 5 minutes from the train station in Levanto.
The owners' main business is a plant nursery so the gardens of L'Erba Persa offer a very pleasant place to sit and enjoy the flowers, or visit the many animals who have found a home here.
The owners are an exceedingly nice couple. Gracia speaks good English.
The house itself is a very old building full of character with the 4 rooms for rent on the top attic floor. None of the rooms have en-suites so if you need a private bathroom this is not for you. However, our room was big and spacious and spotlessly clean. The shared bathroom was also very clean and situated just across the corridor from all the rooms.
The B&B is about a 5 minute walk from the train station in Levanto -- making it a perfect base for exploring the Cinque Terre. We found Levanto itself to be a very pleasant town with plenty of shops and restaurants to amuse ourselves with following a hard day's sightseeing. The beach is also one of the better ones on this stretch of coast and was perfect for a cooling dip after a day walking in the Cinque Terre.
However, the best part of L'Erba Persa has to be the most wonderful breakfasts which are served on the terrace in the garden. Gracia prepares a feast with all the usual cereals, yoghurts, cheese, bread but also her home-made jams made from fruit grown on the property. She also provides bowls of whatever fruits are in season picked from the trees that morning.
If you are looking for a simple, clean, cheap B&B with wonderful hosts then L'Erba Persa is for you but if you need the luxury of a 4 star hotel then please do not go.
p.s. If you like Italian ceramics: we found a wonderful shop on the square behind the beach in Levanto run by a Scottish girl and her husband selling great hand painted ceramics.
