My cousin who lives in Negrar suggested Agriturismo ‘800 to us and we spent two nights there in May, 2005. The grounds and building are very attractive and pleasant. Our room, on the second floor, up a flight of stone stairs, was light, spacious, comfortable and nicely decorated. It included nightstands, an armoire, a trunk at the foot of the bed, a small refrigerator, a clothes rack and a small desk. The bright, clean marble bathroom was quite large and had a wonderful double-size tub, a vanity with lots of storage space and a big marble countertop. Our room was €80/night – including breakfast. Service is very efficient, friendly and pleasant. We asked if we could have a bottle of wine for our room. A tray was brought to us with an Amarone della Valpolicella, wine glasses, plates, silverware, linen napkins, breadsticks, sliced homemade bread, olives, chunks of parmesan cheese, and thick slices of homemade salami. The charge on our bill? €25. There was more than enough food for us to enjoy with our wine so we stored the leftovers in our room’s fridge and made a mini-picnic for the following day when we went hiking in the mountains with my cousin. A very nice breakfast is included in the rate and served in the dining room. Agriturismo ‘800 is also a restaurant and has a below-ground caverna with vaulted ceiling as well as ample outdoor and indoor seating for parties. The renovations were done two years ago and everything is sparkling clean and new. Rooms at similar agriturs in the area are more expensive. It was explained to me that since Agriturismo ‘800 is relatively new, their prices are low as they work to establish themselves and attract guests. The owner also owns Pizzeria Ristorante alle Vigne di Negrar. It's a very good restaurant with a large indoor area and a particularly nice garden with outdoor seating. The location, Negrar, is in the Valpolicella area and a short drive to the historic centre of Verona. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
