When: January 2012

A tranquil, delightful agriturismo with a most gracious hostess.

This agriturismo was recommended to us by SlowTalk.com member Pedalforte. Emanuela Grotti, hostess.

The cost is E110 per room per night offseason, and includes breakfast. A one-night deposit was required. Sent online via www.xoom.com (a company used by Walmart for customer wire transfers) for $4.99 transaction fee with Emanuela's Iban info.

Emanuela provided dinner all 4 nights of our stay for 20 euros per person. Excellent local/regional meals made with locally sourced products, some of the best of our trip(homemade tortelloni and tortellini were some of the highlights). Rooms and baths were spacious and comfortable. Heated floors.

Emanuela was able to arrange tours of an organic parmigiano cheesemaking co-op (Caseificio Santa Rita), an artisan maker of Modena ham, an artisan sausage maker, and an artisan small winery (TerraQuilia). She also pointed us to several castles in the area and would have arranged a tour of an artisan chocolate maker if we had been interested.

Her husband Massimo took us to visit nieghbors who milked the rare breed Bianca Modenese. Some of our tours started earlier than Emanuela's scheduled breakfast times but she adjusted for us.
