Perfect location, clean room, beautiful view.
Albergo Barbara is a 1-star hotel in the Cinque Terre. The rate for our double room was 100€/night. We had one of the two larger rooms with beautiful views. One of these rooms was featured as the "Room with a View" in Conde Nast Traveler magazine one month. We did not see any of the other rooms.
Albergo Barbara is not a hotel as much as a series of rooms for rent. There is a tiny office off the hallway outside our room, but it is only manned a few hours a day. The owners, Guiseppe and Patricia, were very friendly and helpful.
Our room did not have air conditioning or internet access. We were comfortable at night, but it was not hot while we were in Vernazza (late September 2008).
The bathroom was modern, if small.
The keyring we were given had two keys: one for our room door and one for the main door to the building. We liked this as we felt like locals as we came and went.
The location cannot be beat: right on the main square of Vernazza overlooking the harbor.
We would definitely stay at Albergo Barbara again. Our only regret was that we only spent two nights in the Cinque Terre. It is such a special place and we felt we could have entertained ourselves there for several more days at least. Oh well, a good reason to return!
