Wonderful, small clean hotel with a spectacular location on Lake Como {3 stars}

Albergo Milano in Varenna, is a small hotel in the beautiful town of Varenna on Lake Como. We absolutely love this hotel and small town. We have stayed here before and hope to return many times. I highly recommend room #2 which has a very large terrace and spectacular view overlooking the lake. Room #1 also has a large terrace, but is a smaller room.

The rooms are rather small and nothing really fancy, but very clean and comfortable. Our room had two twin beds pushed together and an adequate bathroom with full bathtub. The rooms aren't air conditioned and there are no TV's, but a wonderful ceiling fan, which kept us very comfortable and the temps were pretty warm while we were there. We also had french doors, which we opened at night if necessary.

Bettina, the owner and Marie, who has worked there a long time are wonderful. This is not a super fancy hotel, but the rates are great and its location on the lake and in the beautiful town of Varenna are simply the best. If you have a rental car, parking can be a bit of a problem, but there are numerous free parking spaces along the main road and a parking lot further away.

Once we arrive, we park the car and use the ferry systems on the lake to get around. When arriving, park your car in the spots painted with blue lines in the main square and purchase a short term parking ticket from any of the little stores nearby. I think you get two hours with this ticket, which allows you time to check in and get settled. Then, you can move your car later. I think most people arrive by train, so this probably isn't an issue for most.

We feel very comfortable at this lovely little spot in heaven and highly recommend it. Unfortunately, for most of us, Rick Steves has also recommended it, so if you plan on staying there, reserve way in advance.

Great small hotel. {3 stars}

Stayed at this hotel on the recommendation of a friend. Very accommodating staff. Nice room, although small. We had a lateral view of the lake - as the full view rooms were full; our room was nice, but pay the extra bucks to get the full view if you can. Staff very nice; spoke english. Had dinner there both nights we stayed, very good, served out on their terrace overlooking the lake. Great breakfast. Would stay there again in a heartbeat; recommend without reservation.
