We stayed here in a junior suite (E100)for 2 nights and thoroughly enjoyed it. Rubiera is a small non-touristy town between Modena and Reggio Emilia. There isn't terribly lots to see or do right there, but the town is very nice and everybody we met was very friendly. The rooms were big, nicely decorated and incredibly clean. We had a great deck that overlooked the little street or alley at the back of the hotel. There was satellite TV, air-conditioning and hairdryer. The hotel is full of beautiful antiques. The building dates back to the 15th century and has been remarkably restored with the heavy ceiling beams, wood moldings and beautiful panelling throughout. It was a warm and inviting place. The breakfast was great, with lots of variety and excellent coffee. There are a couple of little open atriums or patios tucked inside the building that you can use, which was a great spot to meet with our friends for drinks before dinner. There was also a couple of areas out in front of the hotel where you could sit in some very comfy big wicker chairs and enjoy a drink or coffee. Franca, the daughter of Arnaldo, was a gracious host, very friendly and just a charming lady that thoroughly enjoyed running the hotel and restaurant. I was looking for an internet cafe, but there is none in Rubiera except at the library, which was not open. They let me use the computer at the front desk of the hotel!! We used to fly in to Milan Malpensa quite often. Our very favorite place for a first night is Arnaldo's in Rubiera - just about 10 minutes from the Modena Nord exit on A-1 - about 1 1/2 hours or so from Malpensa. Great rooms and a wonderful restaurant called Arnaldo's Clinica Gastronomica - one Michelin star. One of the nice features of the restaurant is that nearly everything is served from trolleys - with the exception of the pasta course. We still dine here a couple of times each year. If you reserve a room here, make sure you also reserve in advance a table at dinner. The dining room is very large and we've never seen an empty table. Never. Room and dinner for 2 under {equivalent of} $200 total. Closed Christmas, Easter and August
