What a find! A michelin-starred restaurant, a pool and lovely, lovely rooms a stone's throw from Urbino, with parking convenient for everything. And it's cheap! {3 star}

The Nenè is everything and then some a rural albergo ristorante should be -- including inexpensive. Nestled into the peaceful foothills of Urbino, it has beautiful rooms and a fabulous restaurant, with a warm and friendly staff. (It also has a coterie of resident tame bunnies adding to the charm). We were able to book a stylish, spotlessly clean, spacious double in late September for 60 euros per night.

That time of year it was too late to swim, but the hotel would make a wonderful base from which to tour Urbino and the hills of Montefeltro. Just imagine returning "home" every evening from touristing to a cooling swim (the pool is lit) and a superior meal in the deeply quiet countryside. (There's a pizzeria with the restaurant, too, if you want a very cheap meal.)

Breakfast is excellent, with many goodies baked onsite plus wonderful meats, cheeses and yoghurt. And it's just a five minute drive to Urbino, 20 minutes to Urbania, perhaps just over 30 to such charming destinations as Sant'Angelo in Vado. And did I say the food is superb? I had the single best dinner of my recent trip at the Nenè. I can't recommend it enough. The value for the price is a joy.

The hotel is not hard to find: It's off the "ring road" that circles Urbino, just 3km south. If you are approaching from the west, you turn offf just a bit before you get to Urbino. Turn right (downhill) at a road marked "Sogesta". Coming from the east, go less than two kilometres past the main Urbino parking lot that sits beneath the twin-turreted Palazzo Ducale. Turn left (downhill) at the road marked "Sogesta". You'll see plenty of signs for Nenè.
