Wonderful family run hotel ideally situated about 30 min southwest of Florence, near Siena. Stunning views, peaceful with all amenities.

Found this lovely property through the Alastair Sawday website and was attracted to it for several reasons. The first was the location... less than 45 min. from Florence, close to Siena, San Gimignano, Cortona, and other popular sites. The second reason was the incredible views from the elevated property... breathtaking.

We took the train from Rome to Florence and picked up our Europecar rental on the outskirts of town so we wouldn't have to drive into the heart of the city. This turned out to be the best decision. Our route from Florence to the hotel was straightforward and pleasant. The entrance to the driveway was easy enough to find, however the dirt road leading up to the property was a rather rough, long incline to the top, but it was well worth it. We were greeted immediately on our arrival and invited to have lunch. The entire family with all generations help to run the hotel, and we were treated to wonderful fresh pasta, cheeses and salami, and the house red wine. We ate alongside the family in the dining room. What a fantastic way to "settle in".

Everyone understands and speaks English fairly well. The hotel is comprised of several buildings erected in the 15th and 16th centuries. Each building contains several apartments. Our apartment was lovely. We had 2 separate bedrooms with absolutely incredible views over the hills of Tuscany... the kitchen and living area were dark since the only source of light was one skylight. The unit was well equipped with everything.

Breakfast is not included in the price and costs about 7 per person, which we found unusual since all the other places we stayed in Italy included breakfast. It was meagre... a slice of cake, bread, juice and coffee. After the first morning, we opted to get our breakfast on the road. The dinners were very good..the charge is 25 per person and includes a starter, first course, second course, dessert and coffee. Wine is extra and their house red is quite good. They employ a chef to come in to cook the evening meal.

The property is surrounded by a protected forest and the unheated swimming pool is a short walk away from the buildings, nestled into the wooded area. They also have a heated indoor spa or roman tub (no jets) which is located inside the lower level of one of the buildings.... rather dark, but the pool was backlit and could be considered restful. The friendliness and helpfullness of the staff was outstanding... we will definitely return.
