San Marco: B&B Al Teatro

fondamenta de La Fenice

A fabulous home away from home while exploring Venice. Highly recommended and I will stay here again because I know this won't be my only trip to Venice!

We stayed at Al Teatro for 3 nights the first weekend in March. It was wonderful! The room (pink) was quaint and beautiful. Eleanora and Fabio are warm and helpful hosts. The B&B is right on the quiet side of a canal and within walking distance of everything we wanted to see. The climb up the stairs with our luggage was a challenge but Elenora was a great help. (It also helped me realize next time I am bringing a smaller bag!)

The breakfast was great, and the cappuccinos - I miss them greatly! We were given a room and house key to be able to come and go as we pleased. The Al Teatro is one of my favorite memories from my trip of a lifetime. The first night we were staying there a production crew was shooting a movie right below our windows. They packed up rather early (so no sleep interupted!) in the evening and it was exciting to watch the movie process. Al Teatro is a wonderful place and I DEFINITELY recommend it to anyone and will definitely stay there again.

Quiet location, large rooms, very close to main sites of San Marco

We stayed at Al Teatro for 3 nights - the first night in a (relatively) smaller room and the 2nd two in the large room with balcony. We paid 130 euros per night for our double, including breakfast. Both rooms were a great size with very modern and well-sized bathrooms. The rooms are very quiet and dark at night - we slept great!

During the day you can be entertained by the gondolas floating right outside your window, sometimes with accordian players and singers along for the ride. The location is perfect for being very close to the San Marco sites, though on a quieter calle that gets you away from the tourist hordes a bit.

Eleonora and Fabio are great hosts, ready to share plenty of recommendations. Breakfast was generous and delicious - we had a selection of warm croissants, rolls, cereal, cakes, juices, as well as cappuccini and hot chocolate.

The only drawback which we found (which was not big enough to prevent us from staying there again) was that we initially felt a little bit like we were intruding in someone else's home...because it is their home! The owners and their children live in the same area, so they'll be hanging out, eating dinner, etc. as you come and go. Not a big deal, and we got used to it very quickly. Also, you get your own key for the front door so you don't need to bother them everytime you return.

Overall, we would definitely return to this B&B - great location, spacious rooms and bathrooms, quiet, friendly owners, good value in a pricy city.
