Small B&B in a quiet location, good choice for the budget-minded. {2 stars}

The best thing to recommend this 2 star B&B is the price (125 for a triple, 110 for a double in high season).

It's in a quiet location overlooking a small canal and the owners who were there for part of the day were congenial but understated. The other staff members were all very friendly.

Our room had a kind of shabby chic quality to it but I would disagree with Rick Steves' characterization of the rooms as "classy" and "spacious". The room was on the small side as was the length of the third bed which ended at my daughter's shins.

The shower was the smallest shower any of us had ever attempted -- impossible to retrieve the soap when it dropped on the floor. So small that it has become a memorable part of our trip.

Being as we were in the middle of this summer's heatwave, we had to leave our windows open and perhaps because we were right on the canal both my sister and daughter woke up covered in mosquito bites. The next night they gave us a little gizmo to plug into the wall which seemed to work but we couldn't risk leaving the windows open again and the heat was stifling. Don't know why the gizmo isn't a given since mosquitos appear to be.

Breakfast is under-whelming; recommend buying some fruit to accompany it. Also no place for the third person to sit. There is a big grocery store nearby.

I recommend this hotel to those looking for a good deal and for a quiet spot. For me, the staff's friendliness and integrity was also a plus.
