When: October 2010

A very clean, comfortable, and friendly B&B in the heart of Ferrara on a charming medieval street. Easy walks to cafes, shops, great restaurants. A gem!

We stayed for 5 nights at the Dolcemela B&B in Ferrara and liked everything about our stay.

Marco, the host, was welcoming and friendly and always ready with information about the city and recommendations for things to see and his favorite restaurants. (We had wonderful meals in Ferrara.)

We rented a spacious apartment that was comfortable, pleasant, and extremely clean for 110 euros/night (parking extra) - rooms are less. Our stay at Dolcemela included a lovely breakfast everyday that included meats, cheeses, cereals, and an always changing array of fresh, homemade pastries. Wonderful!

Set on a narrow medieval street near the historic center of Ferrara, Dolcemela is an easy walk to the Ducal Palace and the cathedral, as well as cafes, restaurants, shopping, and historic sights.

We used Ferrara as our base to explore the area and thought it was a perfect choice. Padua, Parma, Modena, and Ravenna are within reach for easy day trips. The entire area had an "off the tourist track" feel and we wished we had more time to spend there.

Contemporary yet gracious, we couldn't have been happier with our B&B choice. Helpful owners, cheery and charming surroundings. All this and Wi-fi, too!

This is a comfy, contemporary, welcoming B&B, from the friendliness and helpfulness of the owners, to the abundant breakfast, to the location, to the well-appointed, spacious rooms and baths.

There are six rooms, all large and airy, all different. Complete with a resident cat, there's lots of wood, open beams, even a lavender-filled courtyard for relaxing. There are also an abundance of architecttural details that make the Dolcemela a visual pleasure at every turn. We rented bikes for 5 a day, parked on the street for 3 (garage is 10), and checked e-mail on our computer using their wi-fi.

We certainly would return ... and hope to!
