When: July 2010

Family owned B&B in a residential neighborhood a few minutes from Fiumicino airport. Inexpensive alternative to an airport hotel.

We selected the Luana Inn based on the review of another Slow Traveler that we respect. We wanted an inexpensive accommodation for our family of three the night before an early morning flight from Fiumicino airport. We were driving from Chianti and needed to be at the airport at 5:30 am to return our car and check in for our EasyJet flight to Dubrovnik.

The Luana Inn is a B&B in a residential neighborhood, a block or two off a main street. It was a little hard to find. We called our contact number, and the young woman Luana came to check us in about 10 minutes later.

We were offered a choice of a family room in the main house or a little separate house/cottage. We looked only at the cottage and decided to take it. It was almost a dollhouse, but worked well for us: two bedrooms, a little kitchen, and a bathroom. The decor was bright, but it was clean and the beds were comfortable... and there was air conditioning. Some items for a self-serve breakfast were left for us in the kitchen; we could have gone into the main house to make our own coffee, but we decided to wait until we got to the airport. We paid 80 euro cash... hard to beat.

We found a great restaurant for dinner a few blocks down the main road-- La Locanda. We really enjoyed the environment and our meal, a nice ending to 3+ weeks in Italy.

This little place will not be for everyone, but it's a good alternative for a budget traveler.

Not your typical airport hotel. This family run place about 4km from the Fiumicino airport is so warm and helpful. You'll be like family.

Airport hotels are not usually memorable in any positive way. This is an exception.

Only 4 km from the Rome Fiumicino airport, it treats each guest like family. It is personal. And your needs are met.

We had a problem (long story involving an ATM and a cab driver) and they went out of their way to offer help. This place is run by a family. We were warmed by their hospitality and their interest in us as people.

The room we stayed in was just fine, with a very nice bathroom. They arranged for a taxi for us at 4:30 the following morning, and we felt confident that it would come. It did.

The only glitch was a taxi driver at Fiumicino that couldn't find it right away. (We flew in from Dubrovnik to spend the night there, returning to the airport the following morning.) I would suggest printing the map which they have on their website, and handing that to a taxi driver if you are trying to get there from the airport.

They have a restaurant, about 2 blocks from the hotel, which is convenient.
