Chic B&B Perfectly Located Near Colosseum and Other Attractions. Loved It!

Stayed here with my sons for two nights...once in April and once in May. Ideally located for visiting the Colosseum and all of Rome really is within easy walking distance.

In a decidedly residential neighborhood which adds to the attractiveness. A bit difficult to find based on the directions on the website - we took the bus from Termini Station and got off 2 stops beyond where we should have gotten off. We stopped and asked for directions from at least 6 people, including the polizia, and no one was familiar with the address.

The rooms are on the first floor of a larger apartment building. There is a shared entrance with other residents. Small but tastefully decorated lobby. Nice sized rooms and big bathrooms. Be careful of the shower - it requires a bit of experimenting to figure out how to keep the water inside the shower curtain. Ask my sons!!

The decor is very simple but attractive. The windows in our room faced the street and while it is a quiet street, we could overhear conversations as people walked by.

The managers, Camilla and Marta (cousins, I believe), could not have been more gracious. You must phone ahead because they do not live on the premises but they were waiting when we arrived both times. Camilla even ran to the local office supply store to purchase an addattore (adapter) when we found out that the one we brought did not fit the outlets.

They both provided very helpful suggestions about places to eat in the area. They both spoke excellent English and also were very patient with my broken Italian. Wi-fi is fast and easy to connect.

Breakfast was at a bar just across the street from the B&B. Not like having breakfast in the lobby but the proprietors of the bar were extremely pleasant and the cornetti e caffe were good.

Camilla and Marta arranged for transportation to the airport at rates that were very reasonable. In both situations, the drivers were there waiting for us as we walked out the entrance.

Make sure you go out into the courtyard within the building just beyond the entrance to lobby. Very colorful glimpse of urban life in Rome - the smell of food coming from the apartments is intoxicating. The little neighborhood park that you walk through to get to the Colosseum is also charming.

I highly recommend Mecenate Rooms. Clean, convenient, reasonably priced, and a real thrill to literally see the Colosseum as you walk out the front door.
