Atrani: B&B Roomswithview

Love this place, love the owners, love the view, love the price!

I booked this for two reasons: price and website. Seriously, a good website will usually win me! I was not at all disappointed.

First, its many steps. They tell you that. If you do not heed this warning its your own fault if the steps annoy you. Second, you must call them when you arrive in Atrani, the winding passages would be hard to describe. We had one hitch with this, when I called I kept getting an Italian man who had no idea what I was talking about. I wandered a bit and a lovely woman who lived nearby directed me. The number was correct, but using my US cell phone and the not so great cell service on the coast must have created a mistake in routing the call. Use the payphone!!

Francis showed us in and our room was as rooms in Italy are, smaller than you might prefer, but it was new, had A/C and a very very new large bathroom. Really, large. Like large enough to hang my clothes to dry and take a shower and still have room to move around. The A/C worked well, we turned it on only at night, as requested and stayed very comfortable. The room had shutters that sealed out all light and consequently we slept like rocks!

The terrace is shared with the three rooms, but during our stay we only shared the space one morning for breakfast. Its one of the highest views in Atrani (the view on the website is accurate and represents looking straight ahead), if you look to the right a bit you see all water and the dome of the church, to the left is the valley with lemon groves. Stunning!! There are tables, umbrellas, sun chairs and an outdoor shower. We sat and drank wine and ate lunch here (purchased in town, and carried back). Breakfast is served here as well, pastry and jam and fruit.

Francis and Bruno are excellent hosts, a young Canadian/Italian couple who will rent you beach towels and let you do a load of laundry. They will also be very helpful when your trip goes very wrong. I can't thank them enough for going out of their way for us!!

We plan to stay with them again this summer for a few nights before moving to an apartment. (Honestly, if they had refrigerators in the rooms, we'd stay with them the whole time!)
