Vallebuia is housed in a lovely 300-year old farmhouse hidden among vineyards, olive groves and woodland near San Gimignano.

Vallebuia is a lovely three-hundred-year old farmhouse used now as B&B, approximately 3 miles from San Gimignano. It is hidden among vineyards, olive groves and woodland so to reach it you have to take a narrow and twisting "white road."

From what we saw on the website, Vallebuia's rooms furnished with country antiques are charming. But except for the cute vaulted dining room where we had breakfast, we never set a foot in the house. When we arrived the owner, Francesca, said that they were overbooked so we would be staying in her mother's cottage. (Both Francesca and her mother, Marjorie, are Englishwomen and very hospitable hostesses.)

This was the first time ever that overbooking led to such a nice surprise. In the cottage we had at our disposal a small kitchen as well as a nicely furnished and decorated living room.

This is a quiet place where you can enjoy the pastoral beauty of the landscape drinking wine from the Vallebuia winery or dipping in the swimming pool (as many guests, mostly from the U.S. and Canada, did) with no desire to do sightseeing. Nevertheless, we visited Volterra and San Gimignano and I hiked a trail leading through the beatiful hilly landscape to San Gimignano and back.

105 per double includes breakfast (and breakfast includes fresh fruit). Two-night minimum stay required; three-night stay encouraged.
