Comfortable, quiet, inexpensive, friendly bed and breakfast right in the midst of the Greco-Roman heart of old Naples.

This place is a find. A young couple, Alessandra and Gennaro Marchatelli, own a large, quiet apartment right in the middle of narrow maze of Naples. There are either two or three rooms available. My room was a large triple, really, with a double bed and a single, not at all cramped, with a teeny balcony overlooking, if that is the word, via Atri, a street about six feet wide. The apartment is on the second floor (third, American) above a quiet courtyard. Minute elevator, .10 euro a ride.

Breakfast is pastries (hold me back) fetched fresh from a neighborhood bakery, coffee, juice. There is a big, lazy dog lying around. Alessandra is studying for the bar, and Gennaro is (I think) an arts administrator.

Spotless bathroom, which I did not have to share; only one other guest there when I stayed. Five minute walk to a nice piazza with good caffes, one minute from via Tribunali, a fascinating, bustling, and incredibly narrow shopping street. Half a block to the left on via Tribunali is the world's greatest pizza ever in the history of humanity: in a little joint called Sorbillo.

Couldn't be more central, yet safe, quiet, and fun. All for €50 a night for one. €65 for two, €75 for three, I think; check their web site. I wired the full payment in advance, but they seemed pretty relaxed about payment methods.
